The art in the book was quite cute. The blue cat wants to be like the red cat and the red cat wants to be like the blue cat. Eventually, they realise they don't have to fight but instead teach each other. ( )

I liked the art, the cats themselves were quite appealing. Red cat wants to be like Blue cat, and vise versa. First they fight, then the try to copy one another, eventually the become friends and appreciate their differences. It's fine, just nothing unexpected.

This story is great at uncovering the emotions of jealousy and bitterness that people may feel towards certain individuals, due to a character trait or personality trait that the other party may posses. Towards the middle of the book, both of the cats learn to acknowledge each others strengths and weaknesses, and learn to teach each other about the individual qualities that they both hold. They learn team work and sharing interest as opposed to feeling of covetousness and strife. The genre is fiction. The media displayed pencils and water colors.

This darling picture book introduces a blue cat and a red cat who are ultimately opposite and spiteful against each other. Ultimately they desire the qualities that the other possess, and they attempt to turn themselves the other's color. They discover that they both are attempting to be one another and decide to put their jealousy aside and learn from one another. The friend pair concludes the story as they discover a yellow cat... What will happen next?
This would be a darling book to teach the colors red and blue, a lesson on friendship or the concept of identity and our intentionally unique giftings. ( )

Red Cat, Blue Cat by Jenni Desmond is the story of two cats grumpily living together in the same home. One lives upstairs, the other downstairs.

For anyone who has introduced one cat to another — cats who aren't siblings and weren't raised together knows how difficult it is to get a pair of cats to accept each other. It's no different here. There's a bit of jealousy between the two and that's what plays out.

Red Cat wants to be Blue Cat. Blue Cat wants to be Red Cat. Each tries to be the other by changing their color. Of course that doesn't work but it does get them to appreciate what they like about each other.

When I wrote the rough draft for this review I was wondering what has happened to my youngest cat. She had gone missing over the weekend and it was extremely difficult to write about a book about two cats so very similar to mine — the old calico who was still here and the young tuxedo who was missing.

Thankfully the tuxedo cat returned about ten days later and hasn't tried to explore the great outdoors again. ( )

Quite a while ago I requested some picture book DRCs on edelweiss from Blue Apple Books. I finally took some time to read them, and I really enjoyed most of them. Red Cat, Blue Cat is fortunate enough to have good art and a good message. I just with the title were a little more interesting.

In this tale, a red cat and a blue cat each live in the same house. One is fast and agile, the other clever. Each of them wishes they were like the other and spend most of the book trying to turn learn from the each other. The message lies in the importance of being who we are, and not to envy the talents of others.

It’s a good message and I think Desmond approaches it in a good way for kids. It’s easy for children to develop self-esteem issues similar to what these two cats are going through. I think addressing that we all have our own talents is important in developing good self-esteem. What drew me to pick up the book in the first place was the art. Desmond’s bold artistic style works well with the story inside. I recommend this to children ages 4+. ( )
