I typically read forty-something books a year and don't want to spread my reading too thinly across 11 categories, so this group seems ideal.
I've chosen five categories that reflect my TBR pile, which I'm forever trying to reduce, and the rule is that the 10 books in each category must have been entered in my LT catalogue as of today (25 November 2010). I will no doubt continue to buy books and borrow them from the library, and I will certainly be reading books that don't fit into these categories (in particular UK and European fiction), but I hope that this challenge will encourage me to read some of the books that have been sitting on my shelf for far too long.
I'm using this thread for listing purposes only. My "reviews" and any discussion can be found on my Club Read thread.
My challenge starts on 1 January 2011 and finishes when it finishes!

I've finished my first book of the challenge: Boule de suif by Guy de Maupassant. Please see my Club Read thread (link in first message) for my comments.

I was reading Gomorrah: Italy's Other Mafia by Roberto Saviano, but am abandoning it two-thirds of the way through. However, since I've read a good chunk of it and it's now been removed from the TBR pile, it counts for the purposes of this challenge!

Last month I finished Bluebird by Vesna Maric, which fits my non-fiction category. (Unfortunately, I can't get the right touchstone to load.)

I've finally finished a book for my Russia category: The Angel of Grozny by Åsne Seierstad. Hopefully, now I've started on the Russian theme, I'll keep up the momentum.

I've just finished A Russian Diary by Anna Politkovskaya as my next read in my Russian category and a good follow-up to the The Angel of Grozny, as Politkovskaya also focuses on the situation in Chechnya.

Earlier this month, I finished War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy for my Russian category. I'm making slow progress with my challenge, but it's satisfying to have completed this book!

@ 14 -- That's a huge accomplishment! I hope to get to War and Peace someday, when I have a couple months to kill.

Hi Christina, yes, you need to make some time for War and Peace, but it's a rewarding and enjoyable read (aside from some ramblings on the study of history!).
