I don´t dare to count the books I have in my bookshelve and still haven´t read. I know there are many more than 40, but I also now I want to read new books so.... at least 40 "old" ones during 2011 will be a good challenge for me.

I just set personal goals to read what I have and some of them are literally oldies. The oldest book I have started and need to finish was printed in 1937.

I have approximately 50 books in my closet library. Yes I keep my stash out of sight on built in shelves and they are migrating to the bedroom closets. I have friends who know I love older books and from time to time will donate to my library...some I will accept and some reject, discipline oath. I will make progress report in January.

You might also want to try this group - http://www.librarything.com/groups/booksofftheshelfchal. Or not. It's up to you really. May I ask, why 37?

Because it rhymes so well with eleven....

That's a truly brilliant reason!

To be honest, I have more than 100 unread books in my library. I can not resist buying new books by my favourite authors although I have not read their previous works. I want to join this group as it will be a challenge for me to read 37 oldies in 2011.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you.

I CAN DO it....thanks again for the 37...sounds like a age I would not mind being again.

I love this challenge! I have, (gulp) never counted the books on my shelves that I haven't yet read! As long as I can read what I have and still buy new ones to add to the bottom of the list, I'm in! I can not stop my OCD of buying new books.

:)

37 rhymes with 11 is a perfect reason!!!

...and eleven rhymes with heaven...buying new books is one of my weaknesses too. I have borrowed a couple of bucks to get discards from library in town...for a buck i get a book listed at $50..you think I'm going to pass the opportunity? Especially if it is a subject I enjoy or am studying at present? Welcome to the challenge.

I'd like to ask Amsa1959...some of my books are references, lengthy. Can books over 301-and up pages be counted as two? :)

Well.....no. :))

I wonder why so many books you want to read are so very thick?

understood. I think I can find some shorties in my collection of shelf fiction by colier.

Thank you so much for inviting me to this group, Amsa. I definitely need it!

According to LT, I have 371 books on my shelves to read, though some of those were acquired after December 1st. I have plenty to choose from anyway. I actually rarely buy brand new books but can't resist charity shops or second hand bookshops and am a member of two book swap sites. I can also get a bit carried away on Amazon market place at times!

I will start my own thread tomorrow.

Thank you for inviting me to join the group - I have waaaaaaay more than 37 books on my TBR shelves in fact i have waaaaaay more than 100 - and 57 on my kindle.

Not all my TBR's are on library thing - I got a bit behind in recording them.

Trouble is for every book i read some 2 or 3 take its place!!! I try I really do try!!!

Hi and Welcome Sally!

I have the same problem. It's partly because I can't resist charity shops. When you read about an interesting book on LT and then see it for (say) a pound, you can't not buy it, can you? And it keeps happening!

Hi All. Thanks for the invitation to the group, it is rather tempting to try and work my way through Mt TBR in a bit more structured fashion.

Although, like everyone else here, I do seem to buy books faster than I can read them!!

(Do re-reads count?)

Hi there Tanyia!!!

You know, that's an excellent dodge for those who aren't sure how to spell my name, Tania/Tanya. :)

FYI, for those who don't know me (I'll assume Sally just had a slip of the fingers on the keyboard ;) it's Tania.

And hello!! back to you, Sally! Consider me waving cheerfully from Sydney.

Hi, all of you. I´m glad you joined the group! We all seem to have the same "problem"´, that is for every book we read, at least two new ones take their place...
>Wookiebender: Yes rereads count.
>Sally906: I´m waiting for my newly ordered Kindle, I guess I´m going to have a lot of TBR there as well - they will however not qualify as oldies this year and that´s good beacause I do have over 100 ones in my shelves...
Where do they all come from???
