I am writing a novel set in Northwest Florida, what elements or themes will make it a great Florida book?

Thank you in advance for all the wonderful advice that you Florida experts can give me!
:)

Read Swamplandia and you will see a book that did not reach its potential. No bite until the end. Some elements from Faulkner's, "As I Lay Dying may have helped the literary value. The Killing Watson Trilogy has the advantage of being based on a true and interesting story. Concerning Northwest Florida, I'm sure a great writer from the McGillivray Clan. Look up Lachlan McGillivray on Wikipedia and you can see how you connect Scotland, France, Seminoles, and Creeks. Plus the son, Alexander gets you to George Washington. The time period also touches Florida's exchange of rule between England and Spain. Probably a series; not just a book, needing a lot of dedication and talent.

Considering you are female and my brief look at your profile shows interest in Christian lit; Sophia McGillivray - Durant may be of most interest. She apparently stopped one attack but died later in a raid by her own kin. She married a Huguenot and her sister married a Catholic; interesting, if you know the history.
