Greets:

Just to throw this out, I remember reading some sort of biography hardcover back in the late 80's (and the book was old then so it had to be written earlier than that) about how the author meets the real secret agent that James Bond is based off of and how Ian Fleming wrote all those novels as a cover up.

I remember two things about the work. 1) The novel Moonraker was written to hide the cover up as someone (I;m assuming that it was some sort of newspaper reporter) had made the connection with Fleming's novels and actual missions that he had become aware of. and 2) The last bit of the book described at the end of the interview the agent walking off along I believe a beach and the author commenting that the agent was going off to save the country yet again.

Any ideas?

thanks,
-drmike

edit: There's this which just got a recent review, which made me think about it, but it's too new:

Haven't read it, but maybe James Bond: The Authorized Biography of 007 by James Pearson? Can't find the original publication date.

Looks like it. The cover with the white James Bond 007 with the red figures looks real familiar too.

Thanks. :)

edit: And looks like I broke things trying to add it in: http://www.librarything.com/topic/120315#2806938 :)

You're welcome. I started out thinking it would be one of Philip Jose Farmer's "Wold Newton" stories, but was wrong.
