Wonder what happened to this author. Once upon a time his stories were included in every classic anthology. Any fans out there????

The Ash Tree Press has issued several collections of his stories.

"He Cometh and He Passeth By", often anthologized, is the only one of his stories that comes to mind - and one of my favorites of the genre. It reminds me of M. R. James's "Casting of the Runes".

Other stories of occult dread that I would group with the Wakefield story include The Shining Pyramid, by Arthur Machen, The Testament of Magdalen Blair, by Aleister Crowley, and Nugent Barker's "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe".

Jocelyn Brooke's short novel, The Scapegoat, should be included as well.

The Ash-Tree Press editions of Wakefield are out of print and pricey, but the good news is that the publisher has started to make the series available in kindle format from their website, along with a wealth of other titles.

I wrote an enthusiastic review of a Wakefield collection not too long ago. I agree that he deserves a continued readership.
