JUNE - Exploding BOMBS Progress Report

May has us progressing and we are currently right on target with
42% for the end of May. With the arrival of summer we should all, lay back with a book from our sheles and get the fireworks popping! The tickers (password BOMBS) are set so everyone can add their to the totals.

amz310783 reach her goal in April and ramblinivy had already reached her goal and is going to continue to help us toward the group goal. Several others are close to the promised land so let's keep going - the goal for June is 1785.
FYI - At the end of June, if anyone has yet to explode a BOMB in 2012 I will move them to a snail ticker. Be sure to let me know if your total is incorrect.

Am still very behind with my reading, but I'm still reading less than I usually do when I'm not studying - post MA Blues.

I was so busy with everyone else's totals I had mine wrong....duh.

Cheli, I'm not sure how it happened but you have my ticker listed as having 0 of 30 in the first post of this thread. And that's what the ticker showed, but at some point it got set to zero when it shouldn't have been. I've re-set it as best I can remember. But I'm not sure how that affects the group ticker.

Here I am and hoping to get few more done this month. I've got a busy month so plan to stick to quick easy reads.

29/60 oldies read as at the end of May.
I was hoping to be able to say I was halfway, but I was part-way through a heavy-duty BOMBS on the last day of the month and didn't want to cheat by swapping it for a shorty, so I only got to the magic 30/60 on Sunday the 3rd.

I've cleared another two books, and have updated the tickers.

I need to read 6 this month to get to 20 by the mid-year point. That's twice my average...

My original goal of 125 is probably out of reach with my extended reading funk. Even so, if I can average 10 per month, I can still clear more than 100 books off my shelf this year.

Thanks to a cold, I had a chance to lay in bed and finish off a few pending ones so I have now hit my 50 target. I will continue on with my quest to read what I own but I don't think the second half of the year will be quite so fruitful. I updated the ticker.

Finished my first one of the month. Unfortunately, a whole armload of books on reserve came through for me at the library so I need to get through some, if not all, of those.

I probably will do that. Summer is coming and that means more reading time. I'v read 27 books this year, but not all books count as a BOMBS.

Just one BOMBS finished so far this month, which is better than last month. My total for the year thus far is 11/30. Must do better.

I decided to include books that I've deaccessioned into my total since they're off of my shelves. Will add total to the tickers up top right away. (BTW, today is June 10 and the ticker says 48.)

@39/40 Wolf Hall is very near the top of my TBR pile. What are these group read and tutored read threads, please?

The group read is in the 12 in 12 group (you don't have to be a member to participate) and it's just a place to talk about the book and ask and answer questions of each other as we read the book at the same time.

A tutored read is a thread that has one person reading the book and asking clarifying questions of their tutor. Anyone can read the thread and see the questions and answers and I do believe that they are having intermissions where others (not the tutor or student) can also ask questions.

Unfortunately, Anita had to drop out, so I have adjusted the tickers to reflect her completions to date. We will muss her and hope that she will be back with us soon.

I've been crazy reading lately, including reading a huge Rubbermaid tub full of picture books, so I'm taking a break the next few weeks. I exceeded my goal (yeah!), and I'm thinking I might start a new target in July. I think if I just kept adding on my numbers I would skew the tickers too much (I did add my results this month to the tickers). And as for the break . . . Whom I kidding? I'll probably start another book tonight.

I'm not quite sure how many books I would like to take off my shelf in 2012...so far, I've donated or purged 47 books (just recounted and revised as of June 28, 2012), having read or reread 17 of those 47 books in 2012!

Editor's Note: I've currently donated or purged 47 books off of my TBR pile as of June 28, 2012. A remarkable total for me (I'm typically a book hoarder) and I'm confident that I can still purge 60 books by the end of the year! :)

That's wonderful! Just out of curiosity cyderry, how do you tabulate the totals? :)

I have a spreadsheet and have totals by month for each person. Add all their goals together for the 3,537 and the books that they say they've read (as of May 31st for this thread) and cut and paste in the totals. Can't get it to tab right, but close enough.

Cheli, can I reduce my goal for the year from 125 to 100?

Just finished The Last Chronicle of Barset by Anthony Trollope, which has been on my shelf since last year.

I just received email confirmation tonight of another 'lucky foster child' from my TBR pile being adopted into a loving, secure new home in Texas (umm...okay...so technically my little baby has become PRM (Prison Reading Material) - but a prison can offer an element of security to my sweet little The Haunted Mesa, can't it?)

I DO NOT JUDGE my beloved 'foster children' by their dogeared and well-read appearances! :) They are all incredibly special in their own way, and can spread their experiences to others where ever they might be! :) I updated my ticker total accordingly by one more book donated, but can someone possibly update the opening totals for me, please? My Chinese Exchange Student from Ireland (My version of Endless Night is written in English, but the synopsis on the back cover is written in Chinese) has been accepted on a scholarship from Georgia - she's going to be part of a Study Abroad Program going to India - a lady in Georgia has a friend living in India who collects Agatha Christie novels. I'm going to mail the book off to Georgia on Thursday. :)

I've finished four so far of the six I have as a goal this month, including the 973-page Pillars of the Earth that I've had going since February. Still four days to fit in another one or two. Top ticker updated.

I've read 8 books off the shelf this month and have probably one more to go, which would give me 47 out of 100. This puts me just below the halfway point, halfway through the year.

Considering my multi-month reading drought (mid March to mid May), however, I should be able to reach my revised goal.

I do not think I will read any BOMBS this month. These new books keep getting in the way.

I am now at 58 read in total. I don't think I will finish any more because my niece was born on Monday and I have a shiny new toy to play with! This is the first niece/grand kid on either side so I have to wait in line but it so worth it.

Hoping to squeeze another one in before the end of the month, so will have to wait till the last minute I'm afraid.

Finished my 10th BOMB: Stiff by Mary Roach (touchstones are frustratingly wrong). If you have any interest in learning about dead bodies, this is the book for you -- very, very enjoyable.

I don't think I'll finish another one this month because I've been absorbed in the Kingkiller chronicle and am reading the last bits of the second part right now.

I have on total read or put off the shelves 18 books. Since I am also counting how many books have come onto my shelf, I am just with 3 BOMBS so far, but I think cheli'll count it as 18, as she has done this month.

I'm done for the month and feeling quite proud of myself. I read 11 books off my shelves this month, bringing my yearly total to 55 Bombs. This puts me back on track to reach my goal, but I am going to have to really work at it.

My last book was a quick read and I managed to finish it before the end of month. I've updated the tickers.

I'm sad to report that though I finished 4 books in June, none was a TBR/BOMB :( and my total TBR list is now up to 324. So my progress ticker remains unchanged 2/25. The good news is that I'm down to one library book and one new book for book group and then I can focus on TBR/BOMBS. Yippee!!

Nothing new for me in June either- well several new books, but no BOMBS.

I managed to clear three more books off my bookshelf in June. I have added them to the tickers. That should bring my total up to 18. I think I could clear my shelves more quickly, if only new books didn't keep coming my way. I read 11 books in June, but only three BOMBS.

I managed six BOMBS this month — including three that have been waiting on the shelf for well over a decade. That takes me to 35/60 at the end of June.

My personal ticker is up to date at 54/100. Didn't make as much progress this month as I might have liked, but I'm still doing pretty good. Well, I'm doing pretty good on this particular goal. As far as my TBR total goes... Oy. :)
