I couldn't wait even one night! I thought I'd review my Early Reviewer book and went from there.

264. Jadoul, Emile - All by Myself! - 4 Stars - Early Reviewer

Generally sweet book about a little penguin who finally is able to go to the bathroom by himself during the night. I can't think of any other book that addresses this particular potty training issue, and think parents would find it more the subject more humorous and understandable than children. My real issue is the art. It looks as if a child drew it. If the author were I child, I would say they are fantastic, but knowing the author is adult, I fear I was not very impressed by the illustrations. This is the author's style, and I fear I prefer a different style. Style aside, this is a cute book that both children and parents will enjoy.

265. Lin, Jeannie - My Fair Concubine - 2 Stars - Discard

I could not get into this romance. The plot is sort of like a Chinese "My Fair Lady". It has great reviews and was well written, but I think too much like a westerner to enjoy this book. The cultural issues addressed are just not part of my experience, and therefore I could not understand the characters's motivation as well as I would like to. Perhaps as I gain more worldly experience, I will be able to enjoy a book like this better.

Anthology of sweet western tales with women who are out west in search of love - whether it be the man they promised to marry at ten years old, or the ad they answered looking for a mail order bride. All three tales were good, but I enjoyed Elizabeth Lane's tale best.

268. Marlowe, Deb - Unbuttoning Miss Hardwick - 4 Stars

Chloe Hardwick has unwittingly become the Marquess of Marland's assistant after her stepfather's illness. Only Chloe feels there is more than just employee/employer relationship towards him. Fairly good romance. The only problem was that when the culprit was really found, I found the Marquess's reaction not true to character.

269. Metzger, Barbara - The Diamond Key - 4 Stars

270. Bishop, Laurie - Deceiving Miss Dearborn - 4 Stars

Gregory is robbed, almost killed, and loses his memory. Kind Annabelle Dearborn takes him in and nurses him back to health in exchange for free labor. Good romance, but is it really deception when a person has amnesia?

356. Butler, Nancy - The Barkin Emeralds - 5 Stars

Really fun romance centered on the Scottish Isle of St. Columba, made more enjoyable since I've actually visited there. The Isle is fighting with a neighboring island. The lord of St. Columba steals the Barkin Emeralds and kidnaps what he believes is the fiancee of the neighboring island. It's her companion, however, so misunderstanding and drama ensue. I really enjoyed the plot and characters in this book so it's a keeper.

One of my favorite, yet saddest of the Disney tales. Poor Dumbo is different so people tease him. When his mother tries to defend him, she gets locked up. 404. Nash, Sophia - A Secret Passion - 2 Stars - Discard

A completely unsympathetic heroine, everyone wants to marry Jane Lovering and she just can't seem to pick the one. The rest of the characters were decent.

Another sub-par heroine and a man who must marry to keep his money. If only I could find sympathy for gorgeous women who have men falling all over them.

406. Richardson, Evelyn - A Foreign Affair - 3 Stars

Sweet romance with tons of political intrigue. The intrigue made this a bit different from Signet's normal fair, but in a good way. I still found it difficult to sympathize with a beautiful princess.

407. Berlin, Eric - The Puzzling World of Winston Breen - 4 Stars - Discard

Winston is obsessed with puzzles. So when his family finds four slips of paper in a secret compartment of a box, he is sure it is part of a puzzle. Not only is it part of a puzzle, but at the end is a fabulous ring. Full of intrigue and actual real puzzles to solve, this book is a winner for children and adults. 414. Ferguson, Jo Ann - His Lady Midnight - 3 Stars

Phoebe has taken it upon herself to steal convicts bound for Australia's penal colony and give them life on a farm. One day she is almost caught, and Galen is all that keeps her from deportation or worse. Decent romance, but love story too fast.

415. Huntington, Kate - The Merchant Prince - 2 Stars - Discard

Amelia wants only to visit her fiance's grave and gets help from what she believes is a priest. Only he isn't a priest, he is a playboy. I liked the premise, but saw no build-up for the romance later in life, and frankly did not seem like a person the heroine would wed at all.

416. Greene, Elena - Saving Lord Verwood - 4 Stars

Penelope saves Lord Verwood's life. Someone definitely wants to kill him, but he has no idea who it is. I was definitely shocked by the ending.

417. Heath, Sandra - The Whispering Rocks - 4 Stars

Insufferable! Clara is upset with the way Lord Carruthers treats her after a carriage accident. And even though he apologizes twice, she is determined to humiliate him by getting him to love her and then jilting her. I couldn't stand the heroine. The other characters were great.

Insufferable romance! All but a few of the characters were tolerable. I didn't want the "heroines" and "heroes" to get together for none of them would have suited. None of the matches made sense. And as a dog person, there was way too much cat involvement in the plot. It seemed like nothing happened without the dratted tomcat.

422. Scott, Bronwyn - How to Disgrace a Lady - 4 Stars

Debauchery king Merrick St. Magnus needs money badly. For the sole purpose of needing a place to rest his head for a spell, he accepts an invitation to a dour house party. Lady Alixe is a far on the shelf bluestocking who is being forced to marry by her father. To avoid a scandal and save himself from being leg-shackled, Merrick decides to teach Alixe some tricks of the trade so she may find love - not a fortune-hunter. A naughty tale of two unlikely lovers.

423. McPhee, Margaret - His Mask of Retribution - 3 Stars

Marianne has three engagements - but no wedding. Rafe Knight is set of retribution for his murdered parents. Their paths collide in a tale of a scandalous wager and redemption. I was surprised I enjoyed this book, because the cover did not entice me, but it was quite good.

424. Brisbin, Terri - The Highlander's Stolen Touch - 2 Stars - Discard

Ciara has loved Tavis since she was a child. She watched as he got married and lost his wife. Now she is to marry to improve her clan, but she must first find out if what she feels for Tavis is love or just a childish fascination. Okay premise, but I did not feel like the the story really grew on the part of the hero. It was like all of the sudden his personality flipped a switch. It seemed like it was a completely different character as opposed to character growth.

425. George, Jessica Day - Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow - 5 Stars - Discard

Delightful take on a Norwegian folktale. A lass must live a year with a bear in an ice castle in order to bring her family riches. If she can not, the bear must marry a troll. This well-written book was bittersweet and delightful. A striking book which highlights lass's love and ingenuity. A true gem. I'm passing it on to someone who will enjoy it too, hopefully.

426. Barrows, Annie - The Magic Half - 3 Stars - Discard

Miri is a middle child. Not only that, but she is the only one of her siblings that is not a twin. Through the help of magical glasses, she is able to go back in time to 1935 and meets a girl named Molly, who may turn out to be her long-lost twin! Delightful time-travel story.

427. Morton-Shaw - The Hunt for the Seventh - 5 Stars - Discard

Jim and his sister move into Minerva Hall when his father gets a new job. But what they did not know the house was haunted by six dead children - looking for a seventh. Fun atmospheric ghost story with great twists and turns.

428. Shulman, Polly - The Grimm Legacy - 5 Stars - Discard

If you've ever worked in a library or wondered what it was like to work in a library, this book is perfect for you. Elizabeth works as a page in the New York Circulating Material Repository. But instead of renting books, people can rent all kinds of items - from shoes to tables. And like most libraries, this one has special collections. Only these collections are magical. This is a fun mix between fantasy and mystery, yet feels real. It reminded me of when I started out my library work as a page. Fond memories.

429. Mass, Wendy - Rapunzel, The One With All the Hair - 3 Stars - Discard

Rapunzel is stuck in a tower and the prince wants an adventure. Through alternating diary entries we see the tale of how Rapunzel got in the tower and how the Prince found her. Fun reinterpretation of some elements of the classic story such as the Prince going blind from losing his glasses, as apposed to being blinded by thorns. Fun, fractured fairy tale.

430. Cowan, Debra - Whirlwind Cowboy - 3 Stars

Deborah lost her memory, and can't remember turning down cowboy Bram Ross's proposal. When she shows up on his doorstep with no memory and tons of money, Bram must decide whether he can forgive and help her, or remember his hate. Pretty good romance, although I couldn't figure out why even though the heroine lost her memory, her character changed as well. It just seemed odd.

431. Gedney, Mona - Frost Fair Fiance - 4 Stars

Fairly good romance. Wish I the end wasn't so hurried.

432. Reeve, Philip - Fever Crumb - 3 Stars

Very disturbing novel. Suspenseful, and scary. I definitely do not want a future like that.

433. Elliott, Patricia - The Pale Assassin - 2 Stars - Discard

Unbelievable book. I thought the premise was good, but I could not believe the characters would act the way they did.

434. Huntington, Kate - The General's Daughter - 2 Stars - Discard

Insufferable

435. Greene, Maria - Captain Hawkins' Dilemma - 2 Stars - Discard

Insufferable

436. Mindel, Jenna - Miss Whitlow's Turn - 4 Stars

Miss Whitlow must marry. She has loved George Clasby ever since she met him and is sure that they are perfect for each other. As the season marches on, Harriet must decide if she is willing to take her future into her own hand. Pretty good romance.

Hi Mandymarie, I see you are still rolling along in this challenge. I've been feeling a little bogged down lately, just can't seem to make my numbers move as quickly as I would like them to.

Thanks for stopping by DeltaQueen!

437. Kirkwood, Kathryn - A Townhouse for Tessa - 3 Stars

Pretty decent book, even if the plot is a bit unrealistic.

438. Nash, Sophia - A Passionate Endeavor - 4 Stars

Charlotte helps her father in his work as a doctor. She is clearly an on-the-shelf bluestocking and is quite content to be until she comes across Lord Nicholas. Good romance which reinforces that just because you are brainy, doesn't mean you aren't still romantic.

439. Stacy, Judith; Robinson, Lauri; Cowan, Debra - All a Cowboy Wants for Christmas - 3 Stars - Discard

Not generally a fan of short story collections, each of the stories in this book seemed rushed. I was unsatisfied and believe that had they been more flushed out, perhaps they could have been better.

440. Gaston, Diane - A Not so Respectable Gentleman? - 3 Stars

Generally good romance about two lovers who find each other again. Mariel is being blackmailed into a marriage she does not want because her fiance is into S&M. Leo finds out, and wants to help her. Their relationship is rekindled and chaos ensues.

Holy buckets, I have been totally lax when adding books I have read. I have been ill, working, cleaning, etc. and haven't added what I've read. I wish I had more time for fun books, but not so much these days. First on my New Year's resolution list is to finish the review books I have. I had no idea I received them so long ago. Yikes!

Here are the not so good books I will be discarding. For a variety of reasons (mainly having to do with the insufferable female lead), these ones are leaving my shelves:

441. Kate, Marguerite - Outrageous Confessions of Lady Deborah - 2 Stars - Discard

Improbable and frustrating - not in a good way. Ditching this one. Why must everything have an aspect of S&M in it? Darn that 50 Shades.

442. Raleigh, Debbie - Miss Frazer's Adventure - 2 Stars - Discard

The heroine really was insufferable in this one. Ooooo, everyone loves me so I'm going to run away to hurt a decent man. What a spoiled chit.

443. Mortimer, Carole - Some Like it Wicked - 2 Stars - Discard

Improbable. Why would you feel guilty about not pleasing your husband if he preferred men? Would you not realize it is a marriage of convenience? Frankly, I could not decide if I found the heroine stupid, out-of-touch, or just so obsessed with herself she could not see what was going on in front of her.

444. Finch, Carol - Oklahoma Wedding Bells - 2 Stars - Discard

Another case of the male characters being about a billion times better than the female characters. The females seemed incredibly selfish and not worthy of the males. A strong female does not have to be insufferable.

445. McCabe, Amanda - Tarnished Rose of the Court - 4 Stars

Intrigue in the Elizabethan court with a long-lost love thrown in. Pretty good romance, although I still find the reason and trust afforded to the main character, Celia Sutton, improbable. If only my history major brain could ignore such things.

446. Gaston, Diane - Born to Scandal - 3 Stars

Guy falls in love with his governess. A usual plot, but still good story.

447. Merrill, Christine - Two Wrongs Make a Marriage - 3 Stars

Cynthia thinks she is trapping Lord Kenton into marriage. The only problem is Lord Kenton isn't really Lord Kenton - but an actor. Love doesn't know who really is a lord and who isn't. So love ensues anyway.

448. James, Sophia - Lady with the Devil's Scar - 4 Stars

Lady Isobel is defending her keep when Marc de Courtenay shows up alone and injured. When he returns and takes over the castle, will their love be able to overcome it?

449. Solomon, Haley Ann - Raven's Ransom - 4 Stars

Lord Raven has decided to give his entire inheritance to only one of his three granddaughters. Men are going all-out to win their hands in marriage. The story of the three granddaughters are intertwined in a delightful way. But while most men desire the ransom, there are those who want only to find the love of their life.
