October - 5/6 through the year- and we're a bit behind of our target with 76.5% for the end of month. We need to focus and clear those books from our shelves and get the fireworks popping! The finale in the fireworks is always massive, let's not disappoint. The tickers (password BOMBS) are set so everyone can add their numbers to the totals.

Here are the standings at the end of OCTOBER:
Together we've read 2,970 - over TWO hundred short of the average number of books for 12 months to reach our goal!!!
The follow members have reached their goals and are continuing to help us to the group target:

I reached my goal of 80 books in October but the breakdown wasn't exactly what I wanted for E-books, audio books, or ARDs (antique reading devices). So I will continue to clear read BOMBS to get that right. I'm hoping to get another dozen finished before year end.

Actually I met my goal back in August :) though I haven't quite managed to read as much as I have acquired :P I'm still trying to close that gap a bit.

Getting ever closer. Finished October at 82 out of 100. I have no library books on reserve right now so I just might reach my goal.

At the end of October I'm on 49/60 — one book behind schedule. More or less on track to meet my target, but I'll be away from home quite a bit in the next two months, which tends to mean more acquisitions and less reading from the shelf. Whether or not I meet the target of 60, I'll have reduced the average age of the TBR shelf quite a bit compared to last year, so it's definitely been useful to have the target.

Just marking the thread for the month. I've been taking advantage of having reached my target by reading a lot of newer stuff in September (only one BOMB - already added to tickers) but I'll still be throwing in the odd 'oldie' from time to time!

Currently picking my way v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y through a couple of big books. I'll make my goal, but it won't be with a flashy charge through the finish line. :)

Personal thread is here.

November totals: 49/50. Both tickers have been updated.

13PawsforThought
Nov. 1, 2012, 2:44 pm

I didn't want to mess with anything so I haven't updated the group ticker but I managed to finish 3 books in October and so have 11 left. I think I'll be able to do it, most of them are fairly short and/or easy reads. I'll also be working less than I have in the past month so will have more time to read. :)

I wanted to setup a special thread to initiate the official vote for our theme for 2013. I'm still trying to figure out the exact format for that, and once I do, then I will post it allowing for everyone to vote on what they want. Since the vote html only allows 3 choices I'm trying to figure out the best wording so that it can all be handled with votes. Keep nagging me so I don't let it get lost under my radar.

#35 rocketjk: Maybe it's me that's misunderstaning something, but the vote above isn't about group reads. It's about when we'd like to vote for next year's Books off the Shelves-grouptheme. Cyderry will make suggestions for next years BOMBS-challenge then, since some of us didn't fancy the BOMBS-theme. We are now to decide when we'd actually and officially like to vote on these topics.

I've voted but don't really care when we make the official vote. What's important (to me) is that we come up with good options to choose from (both good anagrams and good meanings).

42tymfos
Nov. 6, 2012, 7:32 am

Put me in the "really don't care" category, either for when we vote or the theme we decide on. I just want to keep reading books off my shelves.

43streamsong
Nov. 6, 2012, 8:45 am

I agree with tymfos. Whenever & whatever the vote is, is Ok with me. I'll be here. I'd suggest keeping the vote open for a week or so. I've seen LT votes that last for only a part of a day, and some of us are off reading (so say nothing of the nasty day job that intereferes with being on LT).

I've finished my first BOMB for November, Nevada Barr's Ill Wind that has been on Planet TBR since 2008.

Here's my counter:

44Tallulah_Rose

I finished my first "off the shelf" for the month, Parnassus on Wheels. This one is sort of a cheat. I've had the book on my e-reader for well over a year; but mostly I listened to this from a new free audio books app on my iPhone. I've neutralized 5 BOMBS this month, bringing me to a total of 61. I haven't touched the group tickers (my personal ticker is up to date).

I missed a book earlier this month. I already had two done, not one, and now I've finished a third. I updated my own personal ticker, but am leaving the group ticker alone, as it's late in the month and I don't want to cause any confusion. I may have one more . . . I will post & update my ticker again when I finish it.

Have finally got one for the month taking my tally to 46/50. Steady and sure, goal in sight. I have updated tickers. Read 3 e-books while on holiday.

I've updated the tickers for the 4 I finished this month. Don't think I'll manage another one before the end of the month. Puts me at 60/70. Think I'll end up a little short this year.

I hope that everyone is tidying up their totals for November, I'm hoping to get to the new December thread tomorrow sometime.

My total at the end of November is 15 read toward my goal of 25. I've got a bunch of shorter books lined up for December, so I hope to get at least into the 20s.

My totals for November are 10 books read with a YTD total of 106. Only 4 more books to go to reach my goal! I haven't adjusted the group tickers.

I'm not likely to finish any more books this month, meaning that I've fallen way behind my target and am unlikely to reach the end goal for the year.

End of November report:

Bombs detonated: 5
Duds: 7
Added to the pile: 0

Not added to the ticker. I might start another dud tomorrow, but no bombs.

Last book of the month down - The lady in Blue by Javier Sierra which brings my total to 55/55. Which is good because with finals in 2 weeks I don't think I will be doing much recreational reading.

I finished reading my final book of the month last night! :) Low Country by Anne Rivers Siddons was just alright for me, I thought that the plot was slightly contrived in my opinion - but still a very good read for me. :)

As it stands now, my newly revised totals (as of November 29, 2012) are:

November 2012
Total books read: 11 (as of November 29, 2012)
Total rereads: 2 (as of November 15, 2012)
Total acquisitions: 7 (as of November 29, 2012)
Books taken off my TBR pile and sent to new homes: 9 (as of November 27, 2012)

That breaks down as:

2 'old' books read from my TBR pile - books that have been on my TBR pile for five years or longer that I have read for the first time this month.

2 'new' books read from my TBR pile - books that I received in November and read the same month.

5 'aging' books read from my TBR pile - books that I received a year ago or less that I have read for the first time this month.

2 'rereads' from my TBR pile - books that I can remember reading at least a decade ago, but that I read again this month.

I recently received notification that 9 books were taken off my TBR pile and sent to new homes as of November 27, 2012.

As it stands now, I have read 104 books out of 130 that I want to read in 2012 and have donated or purged 95 books out of 100 in 2012. I'm doing so well in my goals so far. :)

I have not touched any of the tickers except my own. :)

Two more explosions this month, that makes 53 - 3 more than my intended 50. And I'm shameless, I've touched both tickers!

I've finished two more books this month bringing me to a total of 25 BOMBS this year. I also am one book ahead of adding new ones to Tbr! That means, I've read 1 book off theshelves than added to them :-)

Updating tickers as I go.

I finished four off-the-shelfers during November. That gets me to 19 out of my goal of 21. I'm reading another right now, and I'm guessing I'll get to at least one more during December. So my goal at this point appears attainable. I will add four to the ticker.

I managed to stay away from bookshops and keep the telly switched off in November (a couple of long flights helped too), and finished the month having disarmed no fewer than eleven BOMBS, some of them vintage models dating back to before the First Bush War.

I've thus reached my target of sixty for 2012. :-)

I haven't updated the tickers.

OK, I finished one more, making a total of 4 for November, 54 for the year. I am updating my own ticker, but did not update the group ticker for any but the first one I did early in the month, since these others were all done so late. For some reason, I'm having a lot of trouble with tickers lately, as sometimes I cannot get my computer to type in the password fields to update them.

I need 6 more books to make my goal. I might be able to read that many off the shelf in December.

I have one more to finish. Less than 50 pages to go. I should be able to finish tonight.

Sorry for this very last minute report . . .

Only finished 4 books in November, but 2 were BOMBS. Both books of poetry: A Wreath for Emmett Till by Marilyn Nelson and Leaves of Grass (the 150th Anniversary Edition of the first, 1855 edition) by Walt Whitman

So, that brings me to 18/25 in my BOMBS 2012 Challenge.

I'm dedicating December to removing items from my "Currently Reading" list.

Also looking forward to the Final 2012 ReadaThing from December 22/23 - 31st . . . Please consider joining us!! See http://www.librarything.com/topic/145298 for more info . . . and spread the word!

Finished 9 books off my shelf this month, the last one with about 90 minutes to spare in the month.

This leaves me at 91, just about on pace to reach my 100 book goal.

I'm a little late with my monthly totals due to computer problems. I completed two books off my shelves for November. I updated the group ticker. I can't believe that I figured it out and didn't mess anything up.

Finished November with only 4 books read for a total of 47 BOMBS gone. Still that means I only have 3 books left for the year!
