Six living generations

It's a hard thing to imagine when I look at my family tree, but it happened in Alberta, Canada and made our national news:

I was born in 1973. My great-great-great grandmother (following all the women) died in 1895, lol.

Seems the family consistently reproduces at a young age! (by my calculations, more than a few of them must have been teens).

There's 154 years between my birth and that of my 3rd great grandmother (in my motherline). And 152 years between my oldest daughter's birth and her 3rd grandmother. So, we are fairly consistent in our own right, I guess.

And then off to the side I see this related story from 2013 in Ontario, Canada: another family of six generations.

It includes this quote:

"If you have someone who has six living generations, they must have had their children at a very young age and it's just a really unusual thing," said Lorine McGinnis Schulze, a genealogist who told CBC News she has not come across another six-generation family during her career.

I guess now we've all read about two of them in ours, lol.

The video says the record is seven living generations. Guinness Records confirms it:

The most generations alive in a single family has been seven. The youngest great-great-great-great-grandparent being Augusta Bunge (USA) aged 109 years 97 days, followed by her daughter aged 89, her grand-daughter aged 70, her great-grand-daughter aged 52, her great-great grand-daughter aged 33 and her great-great-great grand-daughter aged 15 on the birth of her great-great-great-great grandson on 21 January 1989.

I have a niece that was born while her mother was still in high school. Her mom is only 10 month older than me. If my niece had a kid now, that would make my SIL a grandmother before she was 45. I could be a grandmother at this point...if I'd had a kid. I always found it slightly fascinating that her kids could match my non-existent kids in age.

Ends with the quote "You just don't ever hear about it." Well, actually it's starting to sound more and more like an everyday thing, yawn. ;)
