Does any one want to do a Louis L'Amour shared read challenge next year? If we do, what do we want to read? Post your thoughts here and if we get enough interest I'll host it next year.

>1 SilverWolf28: a few of us read the Sackett series in 2019 and Talon/Chantry this year, but I'm open to almost anything L'Amour.

I do have a couple suggestions for themes or groups of books, with a recommendation that we alternate between the two lists.

L'Amour at the movies would include those made into movies (as well as Hondo, which was written after the movie based on L'Amour's "The Gift of Cochise"). I've pulled several using the IMDB list (with some help from Wikipedia) as a guide, and we could choose six.

The Broken Gun
The Burning Hills
Catlow
Guns of the Timberland
Heller with a Gun
Hondo
Last Stand at Papago Wells
The Man Called Noon
Shalako
Taggart
Utah Blaine

My other suggestion would be short story collections published while L'Amour was alive. I've listed several, but there are a few more that could be added.

Bowdrie
Bowdrie's Law
Buckskin Run
The Hills of Homicide
Law of the Desert Born
Lonigan
Night over the Solomons
The Strong Shall Live
War Party
Yondering

>3 harrygbutler: would a made-for-television movie qualify?

Conagher (my favorite)
The Shadow Riders

>4 fuzzi: There's enough of his work adapted for TV that I'd lean toward tackling those books as a separate grouping, and thus I excluded them from my list in >3 harrygbutler:. A quick check on IMDB reveals at least six.

If there's more L'Amour going next year, I'm in. I know it's a small group of readers, but I enjoy the friendliness of this little corner of LT. Prior to these group reads, I'd seldom read him, even though he was my father's favorite author.

For the record, I have followed along all of 2020, reading the books with you all, except for the one month whose title wasn't at my library. My husband retired last year, and I find that, now, I don't have the time to chatter on LT as much as I have previously. So, I apologize for not updating posts on your thread as I do my readings. I keep up with my updates on the various wikis, but as L'Amour isn't a wiki, I'm afraid I neglect posting.

>6 countrylife: I'm glad to hear you've been reading along with the challenge, Cindy! Are there any L'Amour books you'd like to be sure are included in next year's challenge?

Sorry there's not a thread yet. I should have one up Monday evening.

Can I / Should I make a wiki?

I’ll post the thread on the group wiki. If you do make a wiki, I’m happy to include a link to that as well!

>10 SilverWolf28: thank you, yes if you can. If you're not sure how to, ask majkia, she does wikis exceedingly well.
