I'm planning on either yardsaling or going to a huge library sale about an hour and a half away on Saturday. I need to figure out which one will be cheaper. ;) Time before last I went yardsaling, I came home with 178 books for $35, including 41 antique books.

However, the library sale will be much warmer and I won't be disappointed by finding that the book I really wanted in the bottom of the box is water damaged and growing the plague in the last 100 pages... Choices, choices. :)

Well, I've been just obsessed (or is it possessed?) since discovering library book sales. Over the last two weekends I've went to two sales and I'm thinking that any sane person could claim that I'm not.

I've purchased close to 150 book for a grand total of $63. That's like .42 a book! 110 of those books I've catalogued here and the others were gifts for loved ones to help assuage the guilt at my acquisitive behavior.

To further rationalize this behavior, $63 could only secure 5 or 6 books at the local B&N.

Yard saling won out this weekend! The grand total was 267 books in great condition for $45. That brings my library total to 1042, even though not all of them are on LT. I have to figure out how to log some of them - some are sociology textbooks written completely in other languages... I'll figure it out. :-D

Thank god for division! You know, if my math teachers had just explained that we could use this stuff to justify how much we spend on books, I'd have paid a lot closer attention.

imaginelove has trumped my accomplishment (notice the positive term used to help further justify my behavior) by .25 a book! I'm almost jealous. ;-)

LOL! I would have paid .42 per book, .50 per book, but barely more than that unless I reeeeeally wanted it. I pick yard sale mornings that are really cold/windy/rainy so that I can get the best deals and I walk up with cash in hand and go "I'll give you x-amount for the entire lot" after about five minutes of making them watch me hem and haw and restack their books. It works every time!

(If you have yard sales - don't visit my profile! That is an accurate photo and I'm giving away trade secrets here!) This last lot, I got a brand new hardback copy of Blind Alley by Iris Johansen that I've been looking for forever! I have the book right before it and the book right after it, but I haven't been able to find this one. I'm reading it in cheap-book bliss right now. :D

There's a book sale this weekend within a few short miles, so close in fact I could almost walk to it. Give me strength... to carry them all back home.

Ooooh... can I spend the night at your house? ;)

Of course you may... but under one condition. If there is but one copy of a title we both want, we'll decide the matter with Rock-Paper-Scissors. ;-)

Note to self: pack large backpack, laptop with global wireless card (for anywhere access to LT), minimal overnight gear (for maximum book capacity), and book on how to cheat at Rock-paper-scissors!

Man, I don't know where you guys are, but yard sales never pay off that well for me! I had to join the friends of the library & volunteer to do book sale sorting so I can get first dip =)

Inflation has hit the Friends of the Library sales!! I just came away from one where the used and ex-library books were priced From $4-15. Sticker shock. This was more than if they had been remaindered and I didn't figure this out until I was ready to check out. All for a good cause, but I'm somewhat miffed. I know libraries are having a hard time these days, but has this occurred elsewhere?

Our FotL have had a "take what you want, pay what you want" system the past few years and find that we get more money than we did with set prices.

So, raided my local library friends of the library sale and for $5.50 came away with these, all but one in hardback and in great condition:
