Early chapter books with animals

My preschooler has requested audio books with chapters. She loves Winnie-the-Pooh, Mr. Popper's Penguins, and simpler books. She likes picture books too, but wants some longer books that "read themselves" on Libby. I would appreciate some suggestions, please.

I don't know if these are all available on Libby, but here are some early chapter book series she might enjoy:

Owl Diaries by Rebecca Elliott
Humphrey's Tiny Tales by Betty G. Birney
Mercy Watson by Kate DiCamillo
The Chicken Squad by Doreen Cronin

I don't know if they're available on audiobook or if your library would have them if they do, but my niece really liked Owl Diaries and Super Happy Party Bears when she was kindergarten-age or so. My own son never got into them and I cannot in good conscience recommend them if you have to read them to her or listen to them - they are exactly as obnoxious and formulaic as the title suggests - but there are lots of them if that's what she likes.

I was always surprised by how much my daughter liked quite long audiobooks in pre-school. We had them for her older brother but she liked them as much as he did.

Some possible animal classics:
The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary
Stuart Little by E. B. White (or any of his other classic titles - he wrote a lot of animal books)
The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
Bless this Mouse by Lois Lowry
My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannet

Almost anything by Dick King-Smith -- he's best known for Babe, but that's one of the longer/harder ones he wrote; most are much shorter. My daughter particularly liked Lady Lollipop and Pretty Polly, but I seem to recall that there were a lot more at the library.

We didn't ever try the tiny tales recommended above, but my daughter loved the regular Humphrey books by Betty G. Birney

Animal Tales recorded by the wonderful Jim Weiss is another possibility, although it's a collection of short stories rather than a chapter book.

Incidentally, there's also a recently written "sequel" to Mr. Popper's Penguins, called The Popper Penguin Rescue that she might enjoy.

>1 StorybookCat: If books with fantasy elements are okay, Magic Animal Rescue, Unicorn Rescue Society and Clover's Luck are all very cute early chapter book series.

The Hamster Princess series is very funny, but there are illustrations so it probably wouldn't be the best for purely listening to. (Although I know kids who would listen to the audio while following along in the book which would likely work for this series.)

Bunnicula is a classic, though I know some stuff in it can be scary for younger kids, so I would recommend proceeding with caution.

Cricket in Times Square and the Rats of NIMH series are also very cute.

Seconding the Dick King-Smith recommend. He was a vet before he went full time as a writer. But his audience runs from early chapter books to late childhood. His stories about Sophie, a 6 year old living on a farm, might work.

Michael Bond, who invented Paddington bear, has a series for younger ones about a hamster, Tales Of Olga Da Polga

Jill Tomlinson who did Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, did several animal stories about otters and hens and such.

Holly Webb writes animal stories for the right age but I suspect a bit formulaic. She has written about 30 titles.

Catherine Storr did a series of 3 books about Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf with each chapter self contained, with a v self possessed girl outwitting a dim wolf, dated, as Polly is a very girly girl but perfectly paced short stories as beautifully constructed as pooh bear.

Once again the square brackets fail me. I swear I'm trying.
