Am reading a great book right now that is a few decades out of our time-frame here (1565) but The Great Siege is a very good read.

Excellent book. Up there with The Galleys at Lepanto by Jack Beeching.

For more, see The Knights of Malta by H.J.A. Sire.

The Monks of War is another good read that delves into the sieges of Rhodes as well as Malta. One has to be impressed with what those fellows went through and the bleak fate they were staring at.

Coincidentally, I just ordered The Monks of War last week. There was a nice, but expensive Folio Society edition in a local bookstore, complete with slipcase. I practiced some uncharacteristic self-restraint, and came home and ordered a cheaper copy on Half.com.

Ha! That is tough! Seward is a great writer, everything I have on him Henry V as Warlord, The Hundred Years War: The English in France 1337-1453, and The Monks of War are extremely entertaining and, I believe, very useful learning tools.

Just finished The Dream and the Tomb. It's an older one but entertaining and concise.
