Ok - which types excel at sports?

I ask this because the Myers Briggs expert in our HR department is an INTJ like me, and he expressed as much emotion as an INTJ will ever express (a slightly raised eyebrow) when I told him I was quite good at sports - especially team sports!!

Are you good at sport - and what type are you? Which types do you think are more likely to be good at/enjoy sport (and please disitinguish if you wish between team & non team sports).

(INTJ) I am reasonably decent at sports, and if I ever took the time I'd be pretty good, except for Volleyball I don't really like team sports (surprise, surprise) though I used to like softball a bit.

I'm an INFJ, and am woefully inadequate when it comes to sports. This is partly because I'm disabled, and partly because competition of any sort makes me quite uncomfortable.

My gut reaction is that ESXPs would be best at sports, but I doubt this would hold up under scrutiny.

A book that may interest you, zenomax, is Multiple Intelligences and Personality Type: Tools and Strategies for Developing Human Potential by Dario Nardi, which, as the name suggests, combines the theory of mulitple intelligences (i.e., kinesthetic) with MBTI.

BTW, my husband calls me (INTJ) Crash because I'm such a klutz. Never been good at sports, always too much stuck in my head. I have found that doing yoga has made me more aware of my body, but that has not translated to success on the softball (or any other) field, altho there have been some activities involving physical coordination that I've done well at, but I think those were natural, not acquired, abilities.

Thanks citygirl - I think I have heard of Nardi - is he connected with Linda Berens?

I am going to read around this (personality types etc) topic in more depth at some point - I'll keep that book in mind.

Crash is a great name, its really evocative - no more description needed.

The thing I find strange as an INTJ is that I really enjoy team sports (as long as they are competitive), it is when I feel I can really let my hair down. I almost become an extrovert. Because I find it easy to read what is happening I order people about and get them organised. I love it!

Here I am an E and I hated team sports and really stunk at them.

I don't know if he's connected with Berens. Sorry :-s

INTJ
I'm not naturally skilled athletically and I don't generally like sports. However, I played football as a child and enjoyed it. I can play or work happily with teams, if I respect my teammates. I enjoy (and am reportedly naturally skilled at) rock climbing which can be solitary, but most often necessitates teamwork.
I'm extremely klutzy around my own home. I've run into a doorknob and a dresser today. Outside of my house I'm generally more coordinated, although I'm dangerous if dancing.

'Dangerous if dancing' - great description. I think I need to wear that badge when I am out on the town.

INFP
I am skilled athletically, but not competitive at all. Also I never stick with anything long enough to get really good at it. "Jack of all trades master of none" with reference to sports. I think I am true to type.

INFJ

The family I grew up in was quite athletic and I am skilled in tennis, volleyball and solitary pastimes such as running and biking. In high school, I had several friends on the tennis team and they suggested I try out, but I was noncompetitive and had no interest in trying out.(would rather read and paint and draw) In middle age, I find I am much more competitive (Jung's shadow self emerging?) and I understand the fun aspects and intellectual aspects (strategy) of sports and games (and office politics : ) ).....I don't personalize winning/losing and find working on teams enjoyable now.

ENFP
I guess just being an Extrovert makes me very competitive by nature especially if it's something like Monopoly, Scrabble, Card Games, Video Games on my PS 2, whether it's against someone else or the Computer, Volley Ball or Badminton which I like to play if I ever get a chance and those ar few and far between. I always liked to play Softball or Basketball too, even if I'm only shooting hoops by myself I try to see how many baskets in a row I can make or if I can make any baskets from a distance or playing HORSE with someone else.

There are certainly times I will get in an Introverted, soiltary frame of mind and will just watch movies by myself, play my video games or just go and a read a book. I'm really in my element at Parties with a lot people that always seems to energize me by being around a lot of people and mingling with them, eating the good food especially the Desserts, of course. I like winning and hate losing just as much as the next person and have been known to get into heated arguments about Sports Teams or Politics.

My father was an ENFP and played minor league baseball and watched ESPN 24/7. Maybe types and interest in sports or being able to do sports don't necessarily always correlate ie, the more cerebral, less sensing N's may just be endowed with athletic ability or not.....
