Cool! Of course, 'early winter 2009' for me would be June ... (i.e. in the southern hemisphere). :D

I can hardly wait! Even if I can't find a place for it in my 999 challenge I wouldn't miss a read with this group for anything!

Like the last book read I may not participate. I always like reading the comments. I will have to check the book out from the library.
I will watch for when you start reading the book.

digfish--I'm jealous. While you are cavorting in the sunshine, I'm dealing with below freezing temperatures and tromping through the snow here in the Pacific Northwest (US). Nice to know someone is getting some warm sunshine!

Yeh! A new book! Never heard of it, but just ordered it. Sounds interesting and I like the Dutch accent.

Funny, I started in this group because it was a good reason to finally read the Poisonwood Bible and decided after last time not to buy a book for a group read and only join if I had the book, as I have so many books to be read...

And again, I see the title, the book sounds fun and I want to join!

I've given up on making promises to myself not to buy books! I am trying to use the library more for books I don't already own and to read more in my own library as much as possible. But for a group read I think I will always have to buy the book unless I already own it because I usually want to take notes as I'm reading!

Welcome to a new adventure--we expect you to tell us about the "Dutch Connection!"

>6 loriephillips: lorie ~ we should swap countries, I am not a fan of Summer and the idea of snow seems exotic :) I'll pass on any ice storms, though... they looked pretty bad!

>8 MusicMom41: MM ~ I have started using my local library more too, but I have borrowed more books than I can deal with it. And I always have the maximum number (15) of requests going at once. I've become a library glutton! ;D

Oh....the coffee lover in me and the Portuguese (I'm married to one) connection won't let me pass this one up. Besides, I've been secretly lurking around and the members of this group appear to be quite the best around.

I have just located it in the local library catalog and put in an ILL request. It will probably arrive next week, so I'll have to get on with it. If I need it more than 6 weeks, I may be in trouble. Are there any ground rules, posted discussion questions, etc I need to be aware of as I start this.

And I think I still have room to pretend this is a 2009 discovery and get it into my 999 challenge. Looking forward to it.

I'm so glad you'll be joining us for this read!

Usually the book is divided into sections to be read each week. You may want to wait until the starting date is announced to request the book. There may be extra things you will want to participate in that would be better if you didn't read ahead. We do actually read "together" as a group--its one of the things that makes the discussions so good. Of course, just like most groups on LT, we have no gestapo who comes after you if you read ahead! or even behind!

Hi Carolyn....thanks for the explanation. I've changed my ILL request from the audio to a hard copy and put a freeze on the request for now. This sounds really interesting....another new way to read.

And I also posted a message, but marked it private so you don't see it. :)

However, I didn't feel like telling Jude, as he was reveling so well.

Welcome to our new members! We are *so glad* you have joined us.

>Message 27: frdiamond said: How do I join?

You already did! By clicking on "join this group" you are now a member of our Book Group.

What we do is create a new thread announcing the new Book Read and a link to the new Book Group Reading Site. The next book will begin March 2.

I should have time in the next week to put up a page and start entering basic information and *prize* information. :)
