Boys, I got the book I've been looking after for a year now. 2,500 Years of European Helmets by Howard Curtis. Cost me 118 bucks but it's nice.

Should I cover my eyes and not read this thread since I don't seem to have the correct equipment?
Nice book, by the way. I've always likes bascinets.

Yeah, it's really like a locker-room in here. But despair not, we don't discriminate. I'll loan you a sallet.

Sounds interesting. Where did you find it?

Got it off Amazon. They did not have it in stock(been out of print forever) but Amazon Marketplace had it. There is one more copy there for $95 from a different vendor. I went with the more expensive one because it's vendor had a better rating.

What, helmets? If I only had the talent. I read Brian Price's Techniques of Medieval Armor Reproduction and swore I'd be hammering out full harnesses in no time. Then reality had to butt in. Stupid reality.

The actual title of the book is "2,500 Years of European Helmets: 800 BC - 1700 AD". He of course leans a little more on the 15th century and up period since there are greater amounts of them surviving. But it's not terribly lopsided.

Yes, I saw that, but sometimes books with a wide range sluff over the early stuff. I'm specifically interested in 400-700, and books that mostly concentrate on (for example) post-1000 don't help me much ;-)

What you need, my friend, is to pick up The Archaeology of Weapons by R. Ewart Oakeshott. That man knows his stuff and addresses a great deal about the time period you're after.
