I treated myself to a KINDLE about 1 1/2 years ago {the first one was trashed when my cat knocked it off of a bookshelf...but it was replaced free of charge (still under Warranty)} and like it alot...most of the books thereon i got in payment for helping a friend do various bits of research....from Amazon Gift Cards....i just like it...easy to hold and navigate though i wish it was Back Lit..i've learned to read from it in a good, strong light...the price has dropped since i got mine...which is good, too... of course, this little toy will never replace REAL BOOKS for me...rather it's an alternative that i appreciate...oh, and i never take it outside the home (carry it in my purse like a Paperback)..i mean, would i put my computer in my purse?...no way...this baby is easily damaged-by-dropping..be warned

hope this helps, Belva

I've considered getting one for travel as well. It's much easier to carry than a backpack full of books. It's also a great way to purchase more recently out of print books, many places sell them in digital form, but the print form has gone away.

Well, I love mine to pieces. Mostly because they are so very, very convenient. For travel, doctors appointments, auto registry, anyplace one is required to wait...and wait...and wait. I used to take about ten books along on a two week vacation, not now, imagine how much lighter my suitcase is now!
However, one reason I got the Kindle was so I wouldn't buy so many books and, guess what, it hasn't happened.
My fifteen-year-old grandson cited the same reasons for not getting a Kindle as I had at first: liked the feel, sight, and smell of books. And we both still do. But we do love our Kindles.

I bought one in June and I love it! I already have several hundred books on it, most were free. I bought a leather cover wtih a light and it is just marvelous. I can lay in bed and read at night and not have to have a light to turn off. Also, I can read when the electricity goes off! I also like it because my several hundred books don't take up any space. Now, I do still love "books" and have 4 bookshelves I will not part with. But unless it's primarily a picture book or a reference book that I will use over and over again, my new books will be e-books. With the Kindle you can also highlight and take notes and it's all right there!
