I loved the little peeks into Bijou's life with his human family. The author's style reminded me of Robert Fulghum. I really enjoyed the book and though it didn't really pull at me emotionally as much as Marley & Me I will still be keeping the book. I love these kind of feel good dog family books. :) ( )This story made me laugh. I always felt the power of healing by our canine family members. The experiences he went through I could see our pugs doing the same thing especially with the cereal. They give me comfort when I need it and make me laugh all the time. Only a pet owner can understand the power our pets hold. Great funny story. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This is a cute and quick read for dog lovers, that frames some solid life lessons in the context of the way that dogs naturally live their lives. It's occasionally endearing, often a little cheesy. Dog lovers will get a kick out of Bijou's little quirks, and likely seem some of their own dog in the story. Definitely a niche book, but for what it is, it's cute.Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This book first caught by eye because my mom once had a black poodle named Bijou. I read it and really got a kick out of it – and Bijou’s antics. This is a book any dog lover could relate to and appreciate. I passed this book on to my mother when I was done and she loved it as well! Dana, along with his wife and two sons live with their adorable minature poodle that truly owns their hearts. When two medical crisis enter the home through the father and the son, Bijou shares canine comfort, therapy and the most unique first aide that only their Bijou can. The start of each chapter contains a thought from Bijou. I do believe Dana could have added pictures of his snooty little pedigree to capture the reader even more. Another point that Dana makes in the book is when he shares of the other dogs of his past and also of the dogs and the cat in the neighborhood. The section where he mentions helping to raise the frat house dog, Harry and how one day when Harry retires he will join their family just elevated to me that Dana, along with his family truly know and are sharing the spirit and the love of our dogs. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
A must-read for every dog lover--a short, tender, and uplifting tale of a cancer survivor and the life lessons shared with him by his beloved family dog. Our dogs come into our lives as "just the family pet," but before we know it they become drinking buddies and fuzzy shrinks, playmates and Cheerios-munching vacuum cleaners, alarm clocks and sleeping partners. And, in their mysterious and muttish ways, our dogs become our teachers. When Dana Jennings and his son were both seriously ill--Dana with prostate cancer and his son with liver failure--their twelve-year-old miniature poodle Bijou became even more than a pet and teacher. She became a healing presence in their lives. After all, when you're recovering from radical surgery and your life is uncertain, there's no better medicine than anbsp; twenty-three-pound pooch who lives by the motto that it's always best to play, even when you're old and creaky, even when you're sick and frightened. In telling Bijou's tale in all of its funny, touching, and neurotic glory, Jennings is telling the story of every dog that has ever blessed our lives. The perfect gift for animal lovers, What a Difference a Dog Makes is a narrative ode to our canine guardian angels. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
