Originally written in 1958, this book captures the concept of diversity, such as, the appearance of others and why some would not help, but others did. Not to mention, how quickly the gossip made it to everyone and they all had to come squawk and gawk at someones misfortune. There could be some racial undertones taken from the story, but I chose to overlook them. In conclusion, the story is timeless and the illustrations are fun.
