I did enjoy it, but found the style to be lacking finish, quite a few typos in my epub copy, could tell if they were mistakes in editing or poor language choice. Not bad if you suspend reality completely & like this kind of thing, not quite my cup of tea. There were also numerous vampire-inconsistencies (I happen to love Twilight series--and this can't hold a candle to it). Maybe it would appeal more to men.... Interesting book with Chicago Detectives trying to solve a series of murders with no evidence and corpses stacking up along the elevated train stations, small cuts on their necks and no blood! Hard drinking big city detectives living the gritty life and normally making things better by clearing the street of perps but, not this time. Amazing that they could get anything done existing in the political swamp that Chicago metro spawned. Sure there are beautiful women but, they divorced the lead detective, could stand the calls in the middle of the night, long hours and general cynicism that seemed to cling to a working cop. Not to spoil things but, the twisted ending asks more questions than it answers. Enjoyed the read and would like a sequel if the author could get past his ending. Don't let that worry you, just take the plunge and enjoy the read! Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Member Giveaways geschrieben. An interesting blend of cop drama and vampire novel with a little romance thrown in. I found Mr. Weaver's book highly readable and entertaining. Fans of the vampire genre will enjoy "Don't Go Round Tonight" and fans of detective fiction just might enjoy it, as well. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Member Giveaways geschrieben. Certain styles of speech - slang used, inflections, rhythms - can be inetricably linked with a certain place or time period. "The Wire" does this for early 21st century Baltimore. Which is why the similarities between the dialog in "The Wire" and that in "Don't Go Round Tonight" are so jarring. Don't Go Round Tonight takes place in Chicago, but the dialog is straight out of an episode of "The Wire". If the Wire had an episode about vampires. Maybe cops in Chicago and cops in Baltimore do talk the same, but Don't Go Round Tonight would have been much smoother reading if the dialog was written differently. Beyond the dialog incongruity, the story occasionally leaps along implausibly, and this makes for multiple moments of wondering how in the world a plot development occurred. I loved the combination of crime story and vampire genre and it was easy to identify with the characters. I thought that Mc Allister was great and made me laught lots of times. The twists and plots of the story were interesting but often to fast paced and lacking detail. The same applies to the characters which I really liked, however they could have done better with more detail and complexity. The ending of the story made it obvious that we can expect a sequell but I was dissapointed in the abrupt and (sorry) shallow ending of the story. Nevertheless the story has great potentials and I would like to find out how the characters will develop in the second installment. Thank you very much for the book. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
