A story of the war of 1812 which lets you see how it could have affected both sides. A romance, the freedom Americans find dear and God's power in America. A book many need today as they forget America was built on trust in God. Rose is a delight in all aspects. From talking to her farm animals, dealing with fear, and kindness. God uses Rose and Alex, a British naval officer, in this story. War brings out the worst in enemy soldiers. But even in the midst of war, God is still in control. I have not found any book by MaryLu that you won't enjoy. ( )

NCLA Review -This is an historical novel set in Baltimore during the War of 1812. A young farm girl, Rose McGuire, is saved from being raped by a brutal British sailor by another British sailor who feels pity for her. During the incident one sailor is killed and her rescuer, Alex Reed, is badly wounded. She feels obligated to hide him and nurse him back to health since he saved her life. If discovered both she and her family would be arrested and Alex executed by the British for killing his shipmate. Rose is tormented by her attraction to Alex and also her hatred for him because he is British and part of the enemy responsible for her parents’ deaths. The story gives a glimpse of a critical time in our nation’s history when Washington was captured and burned. These were perilous times but our characters displayed bravery and faith that God would protect them in their trials. Rating: 4 —DM ( )

I have never been disaapointed when reading one of MaryLu Tyndall's books. This is book two in this series and very easily can be read as a stand alone, but I always encourage folks to read them in order so you know all the characters in the story better. This is a story of a young American girl who rescues the enemy, a wounded British soldier during the War of 1812. Rose McGuire has lost her parents to the British and has had alot of bad things happen to her, so she is faced with alot of fears and hatred in her heart. But when a British soldier, Alex Reed defends her honor and saves her from his own superior officer, she must help him recover from his wound before she sends him back to his ship. They both discover the good in each other during this time. But the war is still on and both must make some hard decisions and trust in their God. I really enjoyed her Uncle Drummond and the part he had in the story.

This was a story that went in a direction I was not expecting near the end. Although the ending was hard to believe, after having read the author's notes at the end, it did really happen to some extent. There was a sentence in the book that summed up this story kind of for me, which I really appreciated: ". . . regardless of what happens, there's nothing to fear. Because God loves you, everthing has a purpose. Everything will work out for good in the end. That's a promise." I loved the way the author threaded this throughout her story. There was alot of action, suspense, and wonderful romance, and it kept my pulse racing near the end to see how it would all turn out. Another winner! Looking forward to book 3 in this series! ( )

Rose is a young lady who lives on her farm with her aunt and uncle. Her father died at war and her mother not soon after. Because of an event in her past she rarely leaves her farm because she is fearful for her safety. The year is 1814 and America is still at war with the British. The British are into ransacking and terrorizing the country side. The British Navy is helping and we once again run into Lieutenant Garrick and Lieutenant Reed. Garrick attacks Rose and Alex Reed saves her but ends up to wounded to return to his ship. Rose hides him while he heals. Will these two over come all odds and find love or will the march on Washington cause them to lose everything?I loved this book! I could not put it down. The author does a wonderful job of taking history and writing a novel that draws you in. Again I loved how she wrote about God in this book. It was so real so powerful. I also enjoyed seeing Noah and Marianne again and how they played a small role in this story as well. Again I was drawn into what the people of that time must have been feeling as their capital city was burned. I liked Alex from the 1st book so I was excited to read about him in this book. I loved how he had such high honor yet still needed to trust in God.Rose is faced with marring someone who she does not love but also faced with falling in love with someone she can not have. She to must trust in God to help her learn her Destiny. The 3rd book of this series will be out later this summer and I can’t wait to read it as well. If you love Historical Fiction then you will love this series! DISCLOSURE: I was provided a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley to review it. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own. ( )

During the War of 1812, America is experiencing tumultuous times. So is Rose McGuire. After some trauma, she has moved to her aunt and uncle's farm and is trying to forget her traumatizing past. One night that past comes back to haunt her with a vengeance, and a man who is supposed to be her enemy swoops in and rescues her. Alexander Reed is at a crossroads in his life, trying to decide which way to turn. As these two form an unlikely friendship, they try to keep each other and Baltimore safe from a looming British attack.
I thought this was a great book, with lots of details to make the story come to life and characters that you care about. I also liked that the author brought back a character I was intrigued by in Surrender The Heart, Alex Reed. Because he was in that book, he gets into some sticky situations in this one, which kept me on the edge of my seat while I read. Hard to put down, be prepared to stay up reading! :)
**Many thanks to Marylu Tyndall for providing a copy of the book for review purposes as a part of her Motley Crew membership. Cheers!** ( )
