When I was first offered this book I jumped at the chance as I've read and enjoyed other books by the author and knew this would be a good story.
Dylan is single and has worked his way up the ladder to a lead position and now with the great job he had done getting an account from another company to handle, he has many choices-job wise.
Problem is Diane who he knew a long time ago has reappeared in his life with a 3 year old and the child is not his. She moves on and gets a job herself and it comes with an apartment and day care.
Tragedy strikes next as Dylan is becoming accustomed to the child, Spring, she's grabbed a piece of his heart. He must now be her only living family, although they are not related at all.
The refreshing thing about this book is that it's about Dylan and how he copes with things from his perspective. Different that it's not from the woman's point of view but still a very good well written story as are the authors other books I've read.
When Family Services came knocking he had built up a relationship with Spring, routines, etc and finds himself at a loss but with help from his friends he gets in gear to fight for her. He's only a single guy and he's not blood related and considers again all the things left behind from Diane... ( )

This was a Nook freebie. It is ok if you are into Nicholas Sparks. I'm not. This did prove to be a nice diversion while I was sitting waiting on trick or treaters because I didn't have to concentrate on what I was reading. It's very predictable and sappy. Some of it drags. What is it about? A New York PR man who is all career-oriented and into bars and casual dating meets the girl of his dreams, who just happens to have a cute 3 year old. Happiness doesn't last forever, however. You get the drift. ( )

My Thoughts and Opinion: This book was the best birthday present I ever gave to myself !!! People asked what my plans for my birthday were and my answer was relax and read, and I picked the perfect book to read. I became a fan of Michael Baron's after I read Crossing The Bridge, and his next book, The Journey Home, which was just as good. Talented!!! In this book, Spinning, Mr. Baron, through his writing style and words created life like characters, whereas I fell in love with Spring, the 3 year old child in the center of the story line. Touching!!! This page turner, had this reader, actually able to feel the emotions the characters were experiencing. I had to keep reminding myself that this poignant book was written by a male author. Brilliant!! A novel from page one to the very last page was full of emotion, heart wrenching and tender, funny and sad, warm with devotion and unconditional love. An engrossing read that pulls on your heartstrings and doesn't let go even after you read the last page. Superb!!! A highly recommended must read!!

Spinning is the first book I’ve read by Michael Baron, and I assure you it will not be the last. A compelling work of contemporary fiction, this book shares equal parts humor, romance and drama creating a poignant story that is sure to stir your emotions.

A public relations executive by day and a playboy by night, Dylan Hunter balances work, martinis and women like a juggler trying to keep his plates continuously spinning and under control. But when Diane, a former lover, shows up out of the blue with her young daughter in tow, Dylan is about to send another plate spinning into the air.

Dylan and Diane rekindle their romance while her daughter, Spring, begins to soften Dylan’s heart and open his eyes to the world as seen by a three year old. Suddenly crayon drawings on expensive Manhattan apartment walls, macaroni topped pizza and zoo visits to see the penguins become cherished moments for the happy trio. But just when he makes some heavy choices about his life, Dylan’s world suddenly crashes to a halt, leaving him alone to take care of Spring. Little does he realize that Spring becomes much more than just a charge in his care when her fragile, wonder-filled world fills Dylan with feelings he never anticipated. Baron weaves a splendid page-turner with a strong cast of characters you can’t help but get attached to. I also prefer stories with lots of dialogue and this one fit the bill perfectly. Another thing I really enjoyed about this book is that it is written in the first person, from Dylan’s point of view. The author doesn’t shy away from showing Dylan’s thoughts about women, work or his feelings about being stuck taking care of Spring. Having teased others in the past about being “pre-fab” (single with a child), Dylan now finds himself in this exact position and he isn’t laughing anymore. But Spring’s situation is touching and beautifully written; a balm to soothe Dylan in a most unexpected way. Will this playboy permanently trade in his martinis for play dates? Only one little girl and the mystery of her paternity will tell.

Spinning shines with warmth, witty prose and dazzling story-telling… a story not to be missed!
