This is a companion volume to the Rolemaster 2. edition, and it concerns itself wholly with spells and their usage.

Despite the name to book does not contain a lot of information about spell users, you will have to look at the career descriptions in the Rolemaster Companion volumes for that.

The book starts off with some general information about magic, and continues with some extra optional rules. Both the information and the rules might be useful, but only if you want to spend a lot of time tinkering with your world's magic system.

After that section the real substance of the book is about 100 pages of new spell lists, spread across all three realms as well as a few arcane spell lists. About 20 pages are devoted to a completely new set of lists called 'psion' spell lists.

The spell lists range from interesting to completely useless, with most of them being closer to useless for player characters. Some of the lists can probably be used to create interesting non-player characters, but about the only thing that is really interesting for players in the book is the prosaic spell lists.

Prosaic spells is a new feature introduced here, which basically is a type of lesser magic that you can learn alongside the normal spell development at half normal DP cost. This can be used to give your characters flavor for a very low cost in points.

To conclude: this book is by no means necessary to play anything with Rolemaster 2. edition but it adds some reasonably interesting and slightly useful spells to the catalogue of available spell lists. It is probably more useful to gamesmasters looking for an interesting twist to a villain than for players. ( )
