"Sixteen-year-old, Skyla Messenger is a dead girl walking. When her newly remarried mother moves the family to Paragon Island, to a house that is rumored to be haunted, Skyla finds refuge in Logan Oliver, a boy who shares her unique ability to read minds. Skyla discovers Logan holds the answers to the questions she's been looking for, but Logan's reluctance to give her the knowledge she desires leaves her believing Logan has a few secrets of his own. Skyla's bloodlines may just be connected to the most powerful angelic beings that roam the earth, and the more she knows, the more danger she seems to be in. Suddenly an entire faction of earthbound angels wants her dead, at least she still has Logan, or does she?."--… (mehr)

This is book 1 of an YA series and as book 1 this is not a bad start. The main character is a bit whiny, and the story line is not fantastic. ( )

As of now I am not able to finish this book, the heroine is just so grating on my nerves. The book started off fairly well but it took a turn for the worse, not disastrously so but I can't force myself to continue reading it. The heroine, Skyla is so annoying, I liked her for maybe the first ten or so chapters but as the book went on she started to annoy me. Her personality and inner thoughts seemed to change the minute she met Logan Oliver and Gage Oliver. When she started dating Logan she became, impulsive and immature. Skyla was also a very jealous person, she was so jealous of his dead ex-girlfriend, I mean, she's dead and they broke up before she died. She was even jealous of the non-existent or prospective girls in Gage's life. She's pretty enamored with him but is always kinda mean to him when their around each other. I like Gage, he was described in a easy going way. Her jealousy even got a bit venomous for a moment there, I was surprised. She judges people by their appearance as well. She made her step-brother sound horrendous but her cute friend and neighbor thinks he's cute and get's involved with him, so maybe it's the brother or step-brother thing that make her see him has Drakeula, or monkey-boy has she calls him.

Skyla and Logan's mind reading ability seems one-sided. He's always answering her internal conflicts, but she never reads his thoughts except for their first initial encounters when he spoke to her through their thoughts. I guess their always holding hands or touching, never sure until he answers her thoughts and she asks him if he can't turn it off, he said he doesn't think so but yet she doesn't say anything about his thoughts. Maybe she forgets to listen to his, since she's always in her head thinking about a lot of rubbish or he's better at clearing his mind. Guess I just answered my question. Oh, and she even crushes on his cousin Gage sometimes when Logan's touching her.

What clinched it for me to step away from the book was the impromptu party she threw while her mother and step-father(who by the way doesn't seem to like her and vice versa) were away for the weekend. They trashed the place but she completely blames the entire thing on her friend Brielle and seem to wholeheartedly believe she has no fault. Even after she used the party as a cover to leave her home and go where Logan told her to stay away from, she actually left a bunch of teenagers she doesn't know in her home without her supervision. I was embarrassed for her when her mother told her she threw a party when she was young and she didn't get caught because she did a better job at cleaning up, and I'm sure she didn't leave her party too. I know it's such a simple thing but she blamed Brielle for talking her into throwing the party; which she herself brought up first to change a topic she didn't want to discuss. I wondered if this was written on purpose by the author, does she want Skyla to come off as a immature brat.

The plot so far sounds interesting but I just didn't want to be in Skyla's head anymore. I stopped at chapter 28 when there are 54 chapters, so I was half-way thru, I just couldn't continue. Some of the characters sound interesting and it would have been nice to see if she ended up with Logan or Gage in the end. For now this book is on ice, don't if and when I give it another go. ( )

I loved this book for several reasons, the first being the writing style of Addison Moore. She is descriptive without going overboard. The main character is headstrong, but likable. The love triangle is enough to confuse anyones heart strings. It was easy to wrap myself up in this book and not put it down until I finished. Which when I did finish a few hours later I had to let out a *squee* because it was that good! I cannot wait to read the next one. ( )
