The ball handler who fakes and then drives past a defender for an easy score. A pass rusher who leaves a would-be blocker in his wake on the way to sacking the quarterback. A setter who manages to maneuver both body and ball in the blink of an eye to make the perfect pass for the kill and match-winning point. These are all reasons agility and quickness are such prized physical attributes in modern sport. Efforts to become markedly quicker or more agile, however, aren't always successful. Genetic limitations, technical deficiencies, and inferior training activities are among the major obstacles. Developing Agility and Quickness helps athletes blow past those barriers thanks to the top sport conditioning authority in the world, the National Strength and Conditioning Association. NSCA hand-picked its top experts to present the best training advice, drills, and programs for optimizing athletes' linear and lateral movements. Make Developing Agility and Quickness a key part of your conditioning program, and get a step ahead of the competition.… (mehr)

I looked through this book when it arrived and realized that it was not actually something that would be relevant for me at this point in my life. I was about 5 months pregnant at the time. However I have tucked it onto the shelf with the sports and games books because it seemed very well written and like it would be quite useful for our children once they become interested in sports. Since I grew up dancing, rather than playing team sports, I do not have many personal experiences to draw upon to help with sports skills and this book will likely help with that.

I liked this book because it worked, and because it used a scientific approach to skills of which I am in dire need to develop. I also requested this book to use with my brothers who play football, and I can't wait to use it with them. ( )

This book is directed specifically to sport training. Most of the book is focused on detailed and well illustrated drills, which will generally improve your agility and quickness on the field, but it also has quite a few drills specifically designed for individual sports. The authors also cover the factors contributing to agility and quickness, but not in great depth. They mention the mental response variables, but most of this books is focused on techniques and practice drills. ( )

A must-have book for youth, high school and college coaches. Excellent resource for athletic trainers, physical education professionals. Athletes can use this book on their own, though it would be helpful to have someone make sure they are doing the drills correctly. An authoritative source by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, with chapters written by experts in their field. Includes factors that determine agility and quickness, testing and monitoring progress, drills to perform for sports in general and several specific sports. ( )

Very good reference book. It offers background information that can be applicable to both coaches and the 'lay' athlete. The drills are numerous with descriptive passages that are easy to follow. The book layout provides structure for how to test for and create a program to improve agility and quickness, as well as cross referencing the drills for specific sports. ( )
