Lalla Bains is a great character, a former NY model comes back to Modesto, CA to help her father with his crop dusting business. She may be facing her forties with misgivings but nobody messes with her family or her reputation. To protect those dearest to her she is willing to snoop into murder(s) until she finds the culprit.

This is an enjoyable series that is fun to read with Lalla's ability to get into LOL situations. ( )

This is the second book in R.P. Dahlke's trilogy about Lalla Bains. I found that the first book was an excellent introduction to the characters we will follow throughout the series. This one sets up the pattern of Lalla being involved with murder and death, and while the character does not express interest in these murders, there certainly is a pull to include her in the investigation. I find that the second book in a trilogy is always the least interesting, and I am in agreement in this case, however, I am enthralled with the series. Please give them all a read. ( )

Lalla Bains is an ex - model. She is forty years old and twice divorced. Billy Wayne a homeless man has been leaving love letters on her car cut in the shape of snow flakes. The day after he once again covers her car with love letters shaped like snow flakes. He is stabbed to death. He dies at her feet with his last breath he tells her the more there is the less you see. She decides to investigate his death even while handling the aero-ag business she runs with her Father. Sheriff Caleb Stone is her long time boyfriend . He doesn't like her investigating Billy's murder. Their interactions are aggravating at times, funny and heart rending at other times. If you enjoy books with strong women characters i highly recommend you read A Dead Red Heart. ( )

A Dead Red Heart by: R.P. Dahlke
5 STAR

Really enjoyed reading this fun filled mystery. Ms. Dahlke's characters were well developed, interesting, sometimes funny, and quite believable - growing and changing over time, as we all do.

This is a very strong, immensely satisfying and entertaining mystery novel---funny and suspenseful.

Several times you think you have the mystery solved . . . Then Ms. Dahlke manages to toss in a few more twists and turns. Keeps you guessing to the very last page.

Great plot - great characters - humor - suspense . . . what more could you want?

I highly recommend this book. It was a joy to read and hard to put down!
Kept me up till the wee hours of the morning more nights than I can remember!

A thrilling and suspenseful read.

I received this book for free from the author, R.P. Dahlke, in return for an honest review. ( )
