Great story set amid the opal mines of inland Australia. Good character development and weaving of threads. ( )

Surprisingly enjoyable story based around Lighting Ridge and Opal Lake (not sure if this town does exist). The lure and adventure of the hunt for opals underpins the story about three women who come together with their own story. Each to be healed through the agency of the others. First, Kerrie who married an older famous sculpturer who died leaving her with his legacy and a fractured set of three resentful step daughters finds her passion for painting in Opal Lake. Shirley who lost the love of her life when he boarded a plane for his native Yugoslavia and she thought he had abandoned her until the story was many years later revealed after she had cacooned herself in her dugout in Opal Lake. Thirldy, Anna a 20 year old girl with a talent for running but who needed to find the drive that would take her to the Olympics. ( )

Like all her books this is set in Australia, near the opal town of Lightening Ridge. It follows Kerrie's life and the interesting people she meets. ( )
