At first Maomao barely recognizes him, but before long the family is happily making sticky rice balls, listening to firecrackers, and watching the dragon dance in the streets below. This story is about a young girl who's father comes home for Chinese New Year. They partake in Chinese New Year Traditions and she even finds the lucky coin! This primary book would be great for teaching kids about Chinese culture.

This book would be a good fit for primary grades. In this story a little girl gets to see her father for the first time in a full year when he comes home to celebrate the Chinese New Year. They run errands together, eat their favorite foods, and celebrate the New Year all together as a family. However once the celebrations are over her father must leave once again.
This story is a sweet book that covers topics that are fun like the celebration of Chinese New Year and family traditions. It also discusses topics that are more challenging that what life looks like for families of migrant workers. This book would be a good fit for units on other cultures or discussions about family dynamics. ( )

A New Year's Reunion is a story about Maomao, a little girl who only gets to see her father once a year during the Chinese New Year. During this time, her father comes home and the family is happy. He gets a haircut, helps fix up the house, and has dinner with his family. They make sticky rice bowls and Maomao finds the lucky coin. There is also a fun snow day where Maomao makes a snowman with her friends. Finally, as our story comes to an end, the father must leave again for his work. Maomao gives him the lucky coin and wishes him goodbye. This story would be great for showing Chinese New Years, family, and parents who are gone due to work. This book is also great for primary readers.

We are brought inside the New Year's traditions of one family who only gets to see their father once per year on New Years. He brings gifts from afar, but always let's his daughter know how special she is. A lovely Father-daughter relationship selection. ( )
