I really enjoyed this Young Adult book on Henry VIII written from his point of view. I think it is the first Tudor novel that I have read and I have read quite a few that are told from Henry's viewpoint, usually it is from one of his wives. I would have liked a little more detail, certain parts seemed skimmed through but I appreciate this is probably due to the target audience and not the writer's ability. I will certainly read further books by this author. ( )

Solid historical fiction with a fresh look at Henry VIII's younger years. Well written and engaging, with Hal at the center of a dangerous and power-focused court. ( )

I have no idea how I acquired this book but I almost certainly would never have bought it in a book shop. It reads ok although it tends to get somewhat repetitive. It's a basic and simple story and I've just noticed today that it's a YA/crossover book which would account perhaps for that. As the rating says "ok". Just that. ( )

Forget the Henry VIII that you know, king and tyrant this is Henry VIII the spoiled brat. ( )

This was a very interesting look at Henry VIII and his progression from expendable second son to tyrannical monarch. The first person approach made the events more compelling. The historical details were impeccably true and the details that were taken as artistic license were obviously just that. It was also unusual to see a YA book span the first person character's entire life, but this made the concept of Henry as the same person living through those various stages of an incredible life.
