This book has no real storyline, but instead it leads us around the city to get a glimpse at the things that, at times, make a city such a noisy place to live. There are cats in the alleyways scratching and meowing, and there are cars blaring their horns. Their are people clomping down the street, and as the book shows, each shoe makes a slightly different sound. There are also fire trucks and police cars, that zoom off to some far off emergency. The list could go on and on, and book does a pretty good job of coming up with a large number of City Sounds. I really liked the fact that in the back of the book their is a glossary of terms for all of the sounds that were found within the book, and that these are divided up into sub-categories. Simply a great book for all grade levels!

Curricular connections:
1.Have students close their eyes and make sounds using various items and have students guess what they are.
2. Read before starting a science unit in sound have the students try and recreate some of the sounds in the book after they learn how sound travels in waves.
