But that doesn't mean he's okay. There was a definite change in pace here from the previous ones. There was some more show than just plain tell (although in all fairness, it was sort of 'told', just most the stuff was at least actually told by characters and not a disembodied narrative voice, so I wasn't left feeling so off about it), unfortunately, as much as I enjoyed having insight in the life of characters other than the MC, most that tell was kind of boring to me. Maybe I just wasn't as invested in that particular storyline. The rest of it was okay, I enjoyed the book (and the series so far), but it's probably not something I'd re-read. ( )

I've been reading some other reviews and there is a bit of issues with Dylan that some reviewers have. Seemingly in line with Roan, I'm feeling a bit contrary... I like Dylan a lot, and am finding difficulty in liking Roan. I feel for him and understand a lot of what he seems to be fighting, but for some reason I am a little over his drama.

I find Roan fascinating and there are few characters like him; he's depressive, fatalistic but strong-willed. There is a lot to like about him, but for me his self-denial is tiresome. I've never lost anyone very close to me, thankfully; however, I didn't get a sense in the previous books that he was so connected to Paris. I never got the feeling that he couldn't live without him. Did I miss this?

Dylan, I truly feel for. He's in love with Roan and sort of fighting a losing battle in getting Roan to really love him back (or at least acknowledge it). I'm more interested to get Dylan's perspective and see how this will play out for him.

Another small quibble I have is that most of the characters we're introduced to have such horrifically tragic histories. So much abuse and violence... it's a bit depressing to read. I understand the need for it, we're not reading a happy go lucky type of stories; but I'm finding it sad to read and knowing there are actual people that have some of those tragedies be true. (Who's being dramatic now?!)

The series is very good and I've started #5 right away... but while reading Freefall, all I kept thinking was "Wow, how depressing is this book?" ( )
