Okay, so, like the first book in the Cassidy James series I gave this one three stars. But, this time it was so very close to four stars instead.

It starts out with two gay guys, Towne and Rick, who seek out Cassie because they're being blackmailed. Get out of town or get outed basically. And soon Cassie realizes that it isn't just Towne and Rick, but there's something larger going on.

There's also a romantic subplot in amongst it all. The girlfriend from the previous book vs. someone new as well.

And that was one of the things that seemed a bit off, the speed of the new relationship made it seem a little forced. And in some ways made that part of the novel seem like it was only there to be a bridge to the third novel. Also, there seemed to be just a bit of Superwoman who can do anything even if she's never done it before sneaking into the character of Cassie James, which was starting to wear on me a bit.

But, on the other side I liked how a lot of the secondary character were being fleshed out, and how we have been given looks into their lives here and there. It makes the world of Cassie James much deeper and real-er. ( )
