Interesting story line. Too much "romance" it was almost unbelievable. Middle school level writing. Believable characters except some dialog didn't fit with their character ( )

The first third of the book was a little slow for me. But then the action really picked up and I started caring more about the characters. I enjoyed it until the end. The book ended very abruptly for me. I understand that this is the first book in a trilogy, but I expected a little more closure on the Kit and Jake story. I was hoping she would resolve her problems with the Boyd brothers, but I guess that is a subject for the future books.
I also thought that Kit was a little too forgiving with Gloria. It bothered me that she wasn't even a little bit upset with her. Overall, I enjoyed the book, and could see myself reading the next two in the trilogy. ( )

this post is just really to mark the fact that I have completed reading it, and also enjoyed it.

It is the first in a trilogy called The Evil Secrets. The novel is focused on Kit Griffin, proprietor of the cafe The Book & Bean. Kit's mother, Alana, from whom she is estranged, is murdered and the suspicion of local police falls on Kit.

Vickie McKeehan is an established author of romance novels, and this fact emerges clearly in some strong sex scenes in JUST EVIL. ( )

Just Evil was another free book offer that I downloaded to my Kindle a few weeks ago. I just love Amazon's promotion, which allows authors to get their books into the hands of readers who may not normally read that genre. The book description and first few chapters pulled me in and held my interest throughout.

Kit Griffin is suspected of killing her abusive, wealthy mother, and the two detectives assigned to this case are relentless in their efforts to prove she did it. Two of her close female friends and a beloved aunt are there to support her every step of the way. Did she do it?

Jake Boston, an old family friend, comes back to town after a short absence; leaving town suddenly after he'd been found innocent in the murder of his own wife a year earlier. Jake has some history with these same two detectives, who tried desperately to pin the murder on him last year; against the advice of others, he takes Kim under his wing to help prove her innocence.

A childhood crush and the amount of time they were spending together ignites a flame that sat dormant for many years. This soon erupts into a sex fest that consumes most of their spare time in the coming weeks. Is this love, lust or do either of them have a separate agenda?

Soon other deaths occur within the same family circle and the detectives want to pin them all on Kit. However, she has an alibi for all except her mother's. Is there a second killer or only one? After several homes and Jake's office are ransacked and trashed by thieves, they find that nothing is missing. So what are they looking for? The friends set out on a search of their own, and begin at Kit's mother's ransacked home. They soon discover a hidden attic and begin searching for anything that looks out of place. Something is soon uncovered in a long forgotten, dust covered box. Will they find the answers inside?

Kit had continuous nightmares since her mother's death and wakes up at 3:03 am every morning. Unsure what they mean, Jake helps her learn that her dreams of death mimic the 1969 Manson Murders. Why is she having them? Is she clairvoyant - could this be a sign of sorts to prove her innocence or maybe even her guilt?

The story has many twists and turns, leaving a reader anxious to discover the truth. The author does a marvelous job in bringing it all together at the end to provide answers that solve this mystery. However, many of the questions raised in "Just Evil" are left
unanswered...book two in the trilogy may have some of them. And if not, then book three is a certain bet. Kudos to Vickie McKeehan for writing this story! I have already purchased her other two books in the trilogy, adding them to my list of books to read. Hopefully, I can get to them soon and enjoy another story by Vickie McKeehan.
