This beautiful collection of seven classic fairytales is organized around the theme of the fairytale princess. Each fairytale emerges from the page through a series of intricate paper sculptures cut from the pages of one of seven books, one for each of the fairytales in the collection. Each fairytale has its own particular visual flavour: for example, the story of "Sleeping Beauty" is blue and dreamy, while "The Princess and the Pea" is green and summery.… (mehr)

I purchased this book solely for the art. What bookworm doesn't want a collection of fairytales illustrated with paper sculptures made from the pages of books!? The artwork is beautiful and the photographer did a great job of capturing the textures and shadows.

The story adaptations themselves are nothing special. They're all likely familiar - The Frog Prince, 12 Dancing Princesses, Cinderella, etc. - but highly simplistic. It would have been nice if the writing was as beautiful as the art, but let's face it, most of us are probably buying this book for the art alone.

If you're looking for a fairytale collection with a lot of staying power, in terms of the stories, this might not be it. But if you just want to admire the art, definitely pick up this book! ( )

I absolutely loved this book! I want to go buy it as soon as I can. The main idea of this book is the traditional stories of seven princesses and all their fairy tales. The illustrations are my favorite part. The illustrator uses pages from the princess’s story to create 3-dimentional looking images of the tale. For example, Cinderella is created using the book pages sweeping. The image looks like it was made in 3-D and a picture was taken to place in the book. The illustrations also varied from half a page to full page. I felt lost in the story with the amazing images throughout the entire book. I also really enjoyed the multiple stories tied together into one book. After each story was finished, the next story was shown by an opening illustration on one side of the page and a title page on the other. The introductions of each story I found to be elegant and intriguing. These are common stories everyone knows, but the way the book is arranged and the illustrations make it fantastic. ( )
