Crazy. silly, and great fodder for discussions with children 4-9 (I estimate). I rate it low because I am so not the target audience, and I don't even like the art... but the right readers will def. rate it five stars. ( ) Summary: The shark and lobster are afraid of tigers. They and their ocean friends all join together to make a fortress to fight them off. A squid attacks and the animals fight back resulting in victory. The shark and lobster no longer fear tigers because the lobster has stripes and the shark has teeth which is what makes tigers scary to them. Personal Reaction: I did not like this book because it was written sloppily and was mostly banter between the lobster and shark. Extension Ideas: Children could write what scares them. Children could discuss what the shark and lobster could have done differently. Tigers! They creep up on you in the dark! I don't know why it took me so long to read this book, considering that I am the WORLD'S BIGGEST FAN of There Are Cats In This Book. I think I looked at it once and it just didn't grab me. Every reader knows that there are reading moods, and I just wasn't in a shark reading mood. Anyhow, I finally read it. And loved it! Not as much as the cats, of course (Don't worry, guys, I still like you best!) but very much. It's slightly maniacal and menacing humor would appeal to both adults and children. Shark and his friend lobster are just chatting one day when suddenly...they realize that tigers are SCARY. Tigers could be creeping up on them right now! They have to prepare! And so begins an insane building project culminating in a journey to the deep, dark, depths of the sea to bring back...well, you'll have to read the book yourself. If Alice ever fell into the ocean, she'd undoubtably meet Shark and Lobster and feel right at home. Only one quibble, because this book reads vertically instead of horizontally, it's kinda hard to use in storytime. At least for me, possibly some of you more coordinated librarians out there can manage it. Verdict: Sadly out of print, but definitely worth looking for used on Amazon. ISBN: 978-0763629106; Published May 2006 by Candlewick; Borrowed from the library; Purchased for the library (before my time); Added to my personal wishlist This grapic novel is about a shark and lobster that hear about tigers and are afraid of them. They are afraid of them because tigers have teeth and stripes. Alot of sea animals help them build a fortress to keep out tigers. They were still afraid so they went down deeper to find something bigger to protect them. When the something bigger woke up and roared, they scattered everywhere. They then realized that shark was full of teeth and lobster was full of stripes so they weren't afraid anymore. I have been more afraid of the not knowing what's going on in a situation than the reality of the situation. I think this story would be really good for children to see how silly it is for a shark and a lobster living in the ocean to be afraid of a tiger living on land. I think they would also learn we don't have to be afraid of things that can't harm us. In the classroom, we would talk about the different general fears the children have and discuss whether or not they are reasonable. I would then have them write down their greatest fear. I would then call them aside to talk about their fears and see if they could come up with a reasonable solution to help them get over their fear. (I know so of them will not be able to get over it that fast). Shark and Lobster are undersea shark says he is scared and lobster ask of what, he says tigers, because they have a lot of teeth and stripes, which he has never seen a tiger, but heard about them. The shark and lobster and others build a fort and add a deep sea monster for protection. After the monster wakes up and scatters everything, they realize they have the same things the tiger has. Good book as far as showing sometimes we are scared of things we shouldn't be. It's like Franklin D. Roosevelt said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." A teacher could use this to show that when we are scared of something we need to check it out. Sometimes things aren't as scary as we thought it was. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
