James Drinker is a bit of an oddball. A funny looking geeky loner, he walks into Jason Kolarich's office one day with a preemptive concern. Two women have recently been murdered, seemingly by the same killer, and Drinker thinks he will be the main suspect. One woman was his ex girlfriend and the other was a friend. He's the only link between the victims and he has no alibi for the night of either murder. Believing he's the target of a frame up, Drinker hires Kolarich for his defense. Something about James Drinker seems off from the start but Kolarich doesn't give it too much thought. Until another murder occurs. And then another. And as he begins to probe his client's life and story more closely it quickly becomes clear that nothing about James Drinker is what it seems and that the target of the frame up isn't Drinker but Kolarich. Unable to stop a serial killer and prove his own innocence without breaking his sworn attorney client privilege, Jason Kolarich must hunt for the truth about James Drinker, the series of brutal murders, and why he's been set up to take the fall. The answers will be beyond anything he could have imagined.… (mehr)

I’m a sucker for a legal thriller. This one has so many twists and turns it’s ridiculous, but the writing is convincing. There are a few macho man moments in which David Ellis, author, and his alter ego, Jason, seem to merge into one Neanderthal (did you know one hundred pounds is a perfectly adorable weight for a woman?). But not too many so I can forgive. The book is too long, but Ellis cast some kind of mojo that kept me eagerly flipping all those pages.

It’s a good read, especially for walking in on the fourth quarter of this series. ( )

I'm sorry to get to the end of the available books of this series. I flew through the series pretty quickly, and enjoyed each book. I thought this one was different in several ways. Usually Jason is strong and smart, always on top of his game. But in this book, he was addicted to pain killers, hiding it from himself and his closest friends, and going downhill. Oh, and on trial for murder.

It seemed as if all was lost for much of the story. I never guessed very much of what was going on until near the end - and what an ending. All I can say is, when you get near the end, cancel all your immediate plans because it's going to be a long, steep ride to the end. ( )

I have to admit this is only my second thriller to read. My first kinda kept me away from the genre. I actually won this book it is a GoodReads First Read!

Jason, man I really wish I had started at the beginning of the series. It isnt necessary but I really like him and it seems like in past books he has gone through a lot.
This book goes between Shauna and Jason. I think the author did well of giving each character their own voice. I also enjoy that I didnt feel lost coming in to the middle of a series.

Enough with Technicality.
So I met this James Dinker character right off the bat I didnt like him and thought something was up. You share that feeling with Jason the author does real good with making me the reader feel what Jason does.
Anyways, as it goes on you realize this guy isnt who he says he is ( He comes in claiming hes being framed for murder)
From there on you are on a goosechase. Throw in a bit of romance with Alexa and some more murders a drug problem and someone who secretly loves another person and you have an excellent novel here.

I couldnt put the book down and I cant wait to go back and start at the beginning of the series ( )
