A young bull treats the other farm animals in a bossy and loud manner. When goat finally calls him a BULLY, the young bull is shocked and hurt. The point of view of the bully is an interesting twist.

This charmingly simple book shows the power of words, and how they can hurt others. The bull soon learns his lessons, and his friends show compassion and forgiveness to him. ( )

Even though his friends invite him to play and show kindness, Bully says mean things to them. He does this because that is how he was treated. When he is called a bully, he realizes the error in his ways.

With very few words, Bully tells the story of a bull who was picked on by a bigger bull. He then is unkind to the other animals around him. When one of those animals calls him a bully, he realizes what he has done, apologizes and asks them if they want to play with him. They happily agree. The illustrations in this book do an amazing job of telling the story. The meaner Bully gets, the larger he gets. At one point he takes nearly the entire page, making the other animals he is bullying look tiny and afraid. The visuals really show how bullying can make a victim feel.

This book looks into the cycle of bullying. Bull hears "Go away" from his peers and learns that is how to communicate with others. When smaller animals want to play with Bully, he says, "Chicken!" or "Slow poke!" and makes them scared and run off. Once Bully is finally given a taste of his own medicine, he realizes how terrible he has been treating others. He doesn't feel good about it and asks for a second chance. Luckily, the others will play with him this time.
I have to say, this book sends a confusing message. The bull is quick to tell others to "buzz off" and doesn't seem to feel remorse when he hurts others' feelings. Once he is treated with the same lack of respect, he recognizes how sad it makes him feel. He doesn't apologize for how he treated the others, he just assumes they will play with him if he asks. I don't think it sends a very clear message to youngsters who may be experiencing similar situations. When people are mean to others, they may need to apologize to others and make it known that they won't treat others like that again. ( )
