This has a lot less plot than the first two volumes, but somehow I found it way more engrossing. I love the idea that Josephine isn't the first, and I liked how we learnt so much more about the mythology of this world, but didn't really learn anything about what's going on at all. Can't wait for the next volume. ( )

This third volume in Ed Brubaker’s pulp noir horror series gives us four interlinked stories about the history of the temptress, from the 1200’s right up to 1940’s. We see Josephine and Walt meeting during the war and how they defeated the cult and came home to America. Although there is plenty of disturbing content, this dark story is very captivating. The illustrations by Sean Phillips deserve special attention as they create the sinister atmosphere.

These stories never quite tell the whole story, so the reader is left wondering are Mathilda, Bonnie and Josephine all the same person, or are there different fatales in different time periods. One thing was very clear however, although this volume gives us plenty of hints but it is up to the reader to put the puzzle together. ( )

For me this was the best Fatale so far, though I really only engaged with the third story in here (the western). ( )
