Imploding relationships, incapacitating losses, injurious personal mistakes, or spiritual failures--whatever the issue, the wounds are the same.Whether it's a lapse in judgment by Bathsheba or the moral failure of the women's ministry leader in your local church; the spiritual insensitivity of Martha or the compulsive obsessions of your church's care circle chairwoman; the terror of an abandoned single mother like Hagar or the struggling single mother in your prayer group--the time and circumstances are different, but the wounds are equally deep and spiritually devastating.Dena Dyer and Tina Samples get it. They have their own stories of pain before healing--along with similar experiences of their families and friends. Offering more than pat affirmations or vicarious shoulders to cry on, Dena and Tina delve deep into the shared emotions and injuries that women of all ages have in common--and move readers toward the recovery and healing that only God can provide. No matter what hurts you've experienced, Wounded Women of the Bible proves that God understands and that healing is not only His intention but His delight This is a book not to be missed… (mehr)

This was a well written book that compares the women of the bible with what women are going through today. I really felt it had some good comparisons. I received a copy of this book from book fun.org for a fair and honest opinion. ( )

This book is a great tool or resource for women who are counseling other women that have hurts and struggles from their past that they need healing from. The book touches on the stories of Abigail (1 Sam 25), Dinah (Gen 34), Ruth (The Book of Ruth), Hagar (Gen 16), Jochebed (Ex 2), Mary & Martha (Luke 10, John 11), and even Jezebel (1 Kings 16) (have you ever considered her hurts?), Gomer (Hosea 1) and so many others from the Bible....

Each of the women chosen as an example mirror issues that are still alive in the world today. Tina & Dena share the stories of these women and then highlight powerful passages in scripture that can point us to to healing. Their writing is comforting and the stories of their own lives (and their own healing) is encouraging and supportive to those that need that hand reaching out to them.

This book is ideal for small groups, women being counseled by other women and even for those that perhaps aren't ready to reach out to another women. It would make a wonderful gift for someone you think is ready to receive it or perhaps you can leave it somewhere it will catch that friends eye.

Note: there is a wonderful Bible Study Guide in the back of the book. It's perfect for small group and bible studies too! There is a section of journal questions as well as a Hope for Healing Box with a few tips from the authors -

Disclaimer: I was offered a copy of the book to read in exchange for my honest review on GivingNSharing. I was not required to have a positive review and no $$$ exchanged hands. Thanks for reading! ( )

I read Wounded Women of the Bible: Finding Hope When Life Hurts, in exchange for honest review from Kregel Blog Tours. I received a paperback book. The book was written by Dena Dyer and Tina Samples.

My Review:

I chose the book because it had a woman-focus. The book consisted of 13 chapter, discussing different women in the bible. Some of The women included: Abigail, Dinah, Ruth, Hagar, Jochebed, Mary and Martha. Each of the women went through a particular problem, which damaged and wounded them. For example, the first chapter discussed the two women in Solomon's court. The women were prostitutes and they both had babies around the same time. One woman accidently killed her baby, while she was sleep. She rolled on top of her. She panicked and went and stole the other woman baby. She tried to pass the other woman's baby off as her own. The living child's mother took her to court. Solomon said cut the baby in half and give a half to each woman. The true mother said no, let my baby live and give it to the other woman. The true mother got her baby back. The story discusses pain, heartbreak, death, life, and friendship. The story also showed compassion and love. The true mother did not want her baby to die. She was willing to hand her baby over to the other woman, so her baby will life. The two woman was best or close friends before the ordeal, but grief, panic, and lying, changed their dynamics forever.

Each chapter gives discusses a biblical woman, in addition to providing a relatable story by each of the authors. Each chapter also has discussion questions. The discussion questions are at the end of the book. Great for small group discussion.

Wounded Women of the Bible: Finding Hope When Life Hurts by Dena Dyer and Tina Samples is a pretty extraordinary book! Ms. Dyer and Ms. Samples take on some pretty challenging stuff that most of us would rather avoid.

The authors share their own deep sorrows along with other stories from women of today and women in the Bible. They explore the hurts and damage of betrayed friendships, adultery, abuse, and many more hurts that so many of us have experienced through out our lives.

Open, honest discussions of the the challenges and hurts we may have faced as well as how God can and does help us heal, draw closer to God and how we can support and help each other through challenging and hurtful times.

The book is divided into short chapters full of experiences based on biblical women as well as women from today facing the same challenges though maybe through different circumstances. At the back of the book there are questions and study guides for individual review or group discussions.

Wounded Women of the Bible is not a light weight book! It is heady stuff and the information shared is enlightening, educational, practical and rather though provoking.

I can't wait to re-experience this book with a group of close friends and see where it takes us!

Many thanks to Kregel Publications for the opportunity to review this book. My thoughts and feelings are an honest reflection of how I felt about this book. ( )

This book has a pretty cover. It's layout is lovely. The type is easy to read. The topic is unique and drawing. But the true beauty of this book isn't the way it looks or even what it's about. What makes this book one of a kind? The dirty, gritty, bare truth found within it's pages. The testimonies of pain, and perseverance. Of struggle and of serenity. Of desperation and definition. By telling the stories of women in the Bible and in their own lives, Dena Dyer and Tina Samples give hope to the hurting. By recounting how they overcame difficulty, they inspire others to draw close to God. ( )
