I believe that the author does a great job of choosing when to employ scientific words, and when not to. For example, when the turtles where hatching she chooses to call them by their species, loggerhead, once the reader could easily understand what the author was talking about. Additionally, I like that she has the characters talking to one another. I believe that it helps to explain to the reader that the turtles aren't being told what to do by their mom, but know what to do from birth. I also believe that the illustrator did a great job illustrating this book in a way that is scientific and depicts life properly, but is friendly and approachable to young readers. The message of this book is that "helpful humans" can make sure that turtles are healthy and safe. There is also a small anti-littering sentiment as the turtle gets sick from eating a plastic bag she thought was a jelly fish. I really enjoyed this book. I liked this book because the language was descriptive enough for younger ages to understand, but also so older readers could look at it differently and read it as a way to help the environment and the sea turtles. The book had great illustrations which really enhanced the story. The plot of the life of a sea turtle was also well developed. The message of the story was to protect the wildlife around us and don't liter. These sea turtles in the story are endangered and the story gave ways to protect and help them.
