Arnold imagines he is a rampaging dinosaur - a blue line drawing of a dinosaur surrounds him - but at bedtime he's afraid of "the monster that comes out at night and bites off toes." But it turns out the toe-biter is scared of the horrible tooth gnasher, who's afraid of the winged fargle, and so on, until the grozny buzzler reveals what he is afraid of...Arnolds!

This story might have been fun if not for the existence of There's A Nightmare in My Closet by Mercer Mayer. As it is, this book is a bit redundant and bland.

A boy who plays ferociously all day is afraid of monsters at bedtime. His mom tells him that the monsters are more afraid of him. When the monsters come out, they are afraid of other monsters. In the end, the mom was right. The illustrations are simplified drawings with muted colors. The text is easy to read and the design flows well. Great book for read aloud at bedtime. Themes: fears, bedtime and imagination.
