( ) This story is about a little boy named Edgar who wanted a dog for his birthday but instead he got an octopus named Jarvis. Throughout the story Edgar is continually frustrated with Jarvis because all Edgar wants Jarvis to do is to act like a dog. Edgar eventually drives Jarvis away because he feels like he is a "bad dog". After Jarvis leaves Edgar realizes that Jarvis is a bad dog only because he is not a dog at all, he is an octopus and he shouldn't try to make Jarvis something he is not. The central message of this story is to appreciate and accept others for who they are. I really loved this book for three reasons. Firstly, the illustrations are captivating for readers. It was super fun to see what kooky things Jarvis was doing on each page! Secondly, Martin McKenna uses a clear tone to keep readers engaged. He says, "Edgar wanted a dog. But Edgar didn't get a dog. He got Jarvis." This straightforward style can help keep young readers interested in the content, and able to follow along easily. Thirdly, the theme of acceptance was a great way to round out the book. When Edgar realizes that Jarvis will never be a puppy, but that it's okay, it was really heartwarming. It is easy to see how this book can translate into the classroom! keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Edgar wanted a pet dog, but what he got instead was a rather brilliant octopus named Jarvis. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
