But this is a re-take on a series he'd done for the doomed Charlton comics publisher almost 40 years earlier. Doomsday 1 becomes Doomsday.1 (with a hint that he may wanted to have continued it, with the little Doomsday.2 at the end of the last issue).
Overall, while it takes a much more gritty and realistic approach to the end of the world than the 1975/76 series did, I think I prefer the earlier one. I found this one was quite disjointed at times (as a prime example, the survivors are given the option to decide to go with a military submarine crew or go off on their own. The last part of that offer is in the same panel as the next morning when they're sinking their boat and going off, with no actual scene where they make the decision. Confusing). It just felt like Byrne was taking eight issues of story and crushing it down to four.
So, the art was pretty, but the writing was pretty average at best. ( )
