THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF (Tadpole Tales) is a cute little retelling of the classic Aesop tale. The book is at the beginning First grade reading level with a word count of 102.
The artwork is cute. The font is HUGE with two and three lines of text per page. Here is the sample text from three pages:
Long ago, a boy
watched his sheep
near a village.
One day, he
was bored.
So he cried,
"Wolf! Wolf!"
The story does not involve anyone getting hurt, not even sheep, but the villagers definitely get annoyed.
There is an Accelerated Reading test available for this book, and there are two 'exercises' at the end. In the first young readers are shown 6 images and are asked to put them in order. The second exercise has four different phrases and are asked which words describe how the villagers felt and which describe how the boy felt.
