Picked up in my local comic book store in a desire to expand out my Superhero reading range, and to recover some nerd credibility in that I havent seen the tv show.

This was recommended to me as a decent start to the series, and having read no others, I think it is. It starts with Oliver having his world destroyed by a mysterious figure called Komodo, who ruins his father's business and kills Oliver's closest friends. Oliver then has to go on the run, with few supporters and little money, having to go back to the basics.

Along the way, and with the "help" of a blind character called Magus, he finds out some long held family secrets, and that perhaps he's not as much on his own as he feared. He also has a new challenge - find out about the Three Dragons he keeps dreaming about.

The visuals are great (both Lemire and Sorrentino are new to me), with plenty of coloured and uncoloured pages. The dialogue is a little clunky, with some pages heavy with text, but it depends on whether you like that kind of thing or not.

On the whole, a pretty good introduction to a new character.

Ollie has just lost his father’s company, well, technically, one of Ollie’s Dad’s friends, Robert, has lost the company. But, really, that’s only the start of Ollie’s problems in this TPB. He goes up against a guy who calls himself Komodo, another Archer and part of the Clan of the Arrow (which is part of the Outsiders, a bunch of ancient clans).

He also meets a guy with no eyes whose name is Magus and who sorta helps him. He also finds that his father too had some secrets. Like father, like son. My first question is, why can’t these characters just be heroes anymore. Why do they have to all have woo woo ancient whatever ancient thingies? Not to mention, why does DC feel like they have to synchronize all of their incarnations of the same character?

This guy so far is not my Green Arrow. ( )

The pictographic tale (appears photographs comic/cartoonized) shows the adventures of the Green Arrow as he struggles to recapture his identity. Who can he trust?

The format/illustrations are intriguing, fun, and well done.

The story is fairly clear, concise, and well developed.

Characters are interesting and well formatted.

Overall, an interesting read. ( )

I was looking forward to seeing what Jeff Lemire was going to do with Green Arrow. This didn't blow me away. I kind of miss the old Green Arrow sense of humor. ( )
