This one was exhausting. A second chance romance with lots of drama and hurt feelings, and I just don't have the patience anymore. I am trying to get over my contemporary romance burn out, but it doesn't seem to be working. I didn't like Maya's party lifestyle... I didn't like that she is at the outset of her professional career, yet she is always out drinking and partying. She even went so far as to Cameron was okay. Nothing good or bad to say about him. I have to say that the male narrator of the audiobook kinda ruined him for me. His character affectation kind of made everyone seem unintelligent. I didn't like the cadence, pauses and sometimes intensity of his narration. DNF at 50%. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him. Years later, entrenched in a soulless professional routine, she distracts herself from the lingering regret of her decision with a "work hard, play hard" lifestyle that guarantees no man will ever find his way into her heart again. Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side. When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she's become? I am mixed on this book. I am not one to listen to reviews generally but in this case, I wish that I would have listened a little more when people said that the heroine would push me to my limits. I am not sure that I have ever wanted to shake a character as much as I did with Maya.
That being said, this book had promise. I Loved Cameron. He needs a medal for patience because I am not sure I would have had it in me to go through what he did to finally get Maya to the point of realizing that love is not a bad thing, nor was it something to hate. They both were guilty of miscommunication. I think I could have loved the book more if the constant push and pull/ hot and cold thing that was Maya didn't happen so much. Instead, I would have liked to watch them learn and grow instead of having something fester and poison for so long before love had the chance to prevail. ( )
