A love story about a father and his son as much as one between two men, this is a superb example of Grey's command of the extraordinary in the everyday ordinary. For readers who wonder what gay romance is all about, this is an excellent place to start reading. Single father and Pleasanton, Michigan, architect Greg Hampton is particularly proud of his 10-year-old son Davey who's excelling in Little League baseball, especially since a Greg played ball in college. Greg was even courted to become a pro, so seeing his son engaged in the sport is particularly enjoyable for him. But when Davey's batting is off and he seems to be having trouble on the field, Greg is heartbroken to learn that his son has a degenerative eye disease and will become blind soon. As Greg and his supportive group of friends deal with Davey's situation, Greg starts dating wealthy Tom Spangler, who has a soft spot for the frustrated but plucky Davey. To help Greg, Tom, who runs a charitable organization for his family, researches sports for the blind, coming up with beep baseball. As Greg and Davey start to adjust to Davey's blindness, Greg's former wife, who rejected Davey during the divorce, reenters the picture, demanding visitation rights. While Greg is at first suspicious that she is trying to get more money from him, he's appalled when she brings a holistic doctor with her when Greg agrees to her visit. Greg is a wonderful father who is truly devastated by his son's condition. He runs the gamut of paternal emotions from anger that his son must deal with his blindness after having seen for ten years to over-helpfulness, wanting to wait on the boy hand and foot. Fortunately, Greg has a supportive group of friends and a caring new boyfriend who all want the best for Davey. The children of Greg's friends are particularly impressive because they continue to treat the boy as they did before his blindness set in. Read the rest of my review at All About Romance: http://www.likesbooks.com/cgi-bin/bookReview.pl?BookReviewId=10133 Andrew Grey can write any type of story, be it stories around a gym or a wine store or even ones that take place on a farm, and have them affect you so emotionally that it takes awhile to recover from reading them. This is one of those stories that revolves around two men finding love while dealing with the difficulties of a child losing his site. While it was a touchy subject it was written with lots of care and compassion. The romance was never flashy or extreme it was just an honest portrayal of two men finding strength in each other. These are the types of men that I would love to have as friends and would count myself lucky to be included amongst their circle. Please read this book, but have a hanky present cause you will be tearing up in a few places. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Zeige 3 von 3 Gehört zur ReiheSenses (3) Ist enthalten in

As Davey's condition worsens and Greg and Tom try to get to know each other better, what are the chances that things might work out? And how much more complicated with things become when Greg's ex-wife shows up to throw her own opinions on Davey's care into the mix?
This is an incredibly sweet story about love of all kinds. Even though the story has an m/m romance theme, I think it truly transcends that motif to include the love of family and friends - and the notion that sometimes a family is made up of those who are there for you and support you, not necessarily just those who are related to you. Greg's selfless love for his son is endearing, as is Tom's support of both Greg and Davey. And all of the friends that surround them provide this wonderful sense of a community of support. I found this to be a story that pulls at the heart (and not always just for the moments between the central couple) but left me feeling great about the people in my own life who are always there to support others and truly care - and it inspires me to remember to show the people I care about that same type of support.
I started this review giving this book four stars, but I find now that I'm thinking about it more, it's definitely a five star - one of the best books I've read so far this year...
