Instead of asking literature to meet the entertainment, cultural, and of course educational needs of today's youth, Literature Activities Teens Actually Love offers activities that empower teachers to guide students to work with literature in order to rediscover the joys it holds. Through a variety of innovative and highly engaging projects, this book will develop a new lens through which to view literature and its study, with activities that are at once highly entertaining yet encourage higher order thinking skills and strategies. Lesson plans incorporating alternatives as diverse as Facebook and quilting show how teachers and students can bridge the technology gap by finding creative solutions to traditional academic problems. By allowing students to use their technological skills to move from print to non-print assessments, students will have the opportunity to explore the text with a greater degree of ownership over the process, resulting in autonomous learners.… (mehr)

As an upper elementary school teacher, I wasn't sure how applicable this text would be to my work with students. I was pleasantly surprised that although the activities in the book are designed for high school students, I could easily envision adapting them to fit the needs of an upper elementary classroom. The authors do a great job of explaining the skills emphasized in the various literature activities they have designed. The examples are clear and photographs help the reader understand exactly what an exemplary product for each activity might look like. I highly recommend this text to any teacher (upper elementary and up!) who is looking to modify his/her current approach to literature assessment in a way that appeals to kids today. ( )

This book is an excellent tool for high school literature teachers and other high school teachers. I consider this book an excellent source of new ideas and encourage all my teachers to look this book over for new ideas that will reach our students in original and exciting ways. ( )

This is a great resource for high school teachers. My favorite aspect of the book is that the author has listed several commonly assigned novels/texts that can be used with each lesson. I teach both ninth and twelfth grade English and will be using this book several times in both classes during the coming year. A must-buy for anyone looking for interesting and engaging project ideas. ( )

The authors of "Literature Activities Teens Actually Love" have put together eight activities that can be adapted to a wide variety of literature. The activities featured allow students to branch out from "pen and paper" to digital media and art. For example, students are encouraged to make a social media profile of a character from the assigned book, showing the character's friends, favorite music, and other "likes." ( )

This book had very detailed and well-thought out lesson plans. Better yet, it provided with Common Core standards which it aligned with. While not all of the activities were something new or innovative, all of them were useful and engaging for students. I would certainly recommend this book to beginning teachers such as myself.
