Who knew there was a problem with not being scared of monsters? The hero of this story knows it--all too well. Because he's not scared, the monsters think he's one of them. And now, they're way too friendly. They want to share everything! Which is, of course, a disaster. Good thing there's a terrified little brother to come to the rescue. With an understated text and hilarious illustrations, this picture book will have kids laughing away their fears.… (mehr)

This book was definitely a favorite of mine for many reasons. The plot, the illustrations, and how the writing is depicted in the story are some of the few. The plot is about a young boy who is not afraid of monsters. Though the young boy not being afraid of monsters is a good thing, he still has to go through obstacles everyday because the monsters are always around. I believe the big idea/message of the story is to teach young kids about being brave, at night especially. The young boy's little brother comes into his room scared of the monsters under his bed, and by the end of the story the monsters now like to bother the little brother. The illustrations definitely help bring the story to life. "It's hard to climb out of bed in the morning." On this page, the monsters are asleep on top of the young boy when he wakes up. The monsters are drawn very realistically with bright colors. The writing in the story is very animated but still straightforward. Each page only has one sentence, "Your breakfast cereal tastes funny." and "You can't finish your work." are some examples. The illustrator even animates certain unique works in the text that they want to draw your attention to like "drag" or "homework". Overall, this book was a great read. ( )

Okay but not as much fun as Mercer Mayer's classics. ( )
